Young Middle School Newsletter
January 2024 Edition
Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends! Happy New Year!
I want to extend a warm welcome to our students, parents and community members. I sincerely hope that everyone had a joyous winter holiday. Our return to school marks the beginning of the second semester as well as our mid-year point. As we embark on the second semester, it is the perfect time to renew our commitment to our focus, our dedication to growth, and our emphasis on our school’s vision of creating a high performing IB school of choice where students want to learn, parents and families engage, educators empower students to succeed, and the community collaborates with the school to rebuild the legacy.
Let’s continue to remain steadfast on our journey of learning together while fostering a positive and engaging school environment. Let’s also continue to collaborate as we make this semester a successful and enriching experience for our students. I could not be more excited about the opportunities for progress and learning that lie ahead. Together, we will continue to “Rebuild the Legacy” of Jean Childs Young Middle School.
With Gratitude,
Ronald Garlington - Principal

From the desk of our IB Coordinator
On December 15th 2023, we successfully submitted our IB Authorization Application, which puts us one step closer to becoming an Authorized IB World School. Now that we have submitted our application our next steps are moving forward with full IB implementation and preparing for our Authorization Visit (Date TBD).
Learner Profile Attribute for the month of January
The IB Learner Profile for the month of January is Risk-Taker. As we move through this month, begin to embody this attribute and encourage our future "IB Scholars" to do the same. Please be sure to put up your spotlight posters on your main whiteboard as a part of your board configuration. If you need a copy of the spotlight, please communicate with me. The IB Definition: We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

As a parent or guardian, you know that learning shouldn’t stop when students step outside the classroom—but traditional tutoring services aren’t accessible to all families.
With Paper™, students get access to free, unlimited, and 24/7 academic support from fully vetted tutors, all from a secure platform. All Paper tutors are experts in their own academic areas, and students can get support across 200-plus subjects in four languages.
Paper encourages students to choose their own path, learn at their own pace, and more actively participate in decisions about their education—reigniting their academic engagement and confidence.
