AVID COLLEGE FAIR
The sixth annual college fair at Hidden River Middle School is approaching quickly! The purpose of the college fair is to educate students and families about options for the future. Here are some details to know:
1. The college fair will be held in the library during the school day on May 13 and 14. ALL HR students will have the opportunity to attend with their math classes.
2. AVID students will be excused from classes to work one of the two days. They are responsible for any work missed in their regular classes.
3. Families can attend our evening college fair on May 16 from 4:30 to 5:30 and then are invited to join us afterwards in the cafeteria for dinner and/or literacy night activities!
Please reach out to Melissa Hart at melissa.hart@spps.org if you have any questions.

French Immersion - Mme Payia Yang
In the April 28th newsletter, I shared exciting news about our 7th-grade French immersion students who participated in the National French Contest/Le Grand Concours sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).
The top three of our Otters were recognized for their outstanding performance at the breakfast award ceremony held on May 9, 2024 at Hallie Q Brown Community Center. Among 44,939 national contestants, Hidden River Middle School has national winners in Level 1 Category C (completely native). Here are the details:
- L.K. is ranked 1st nationally and 1st in the state!
- Frankie Burns is ranked 3rd nationally and 2nd in the state!
- Athanasia Kotsonas is ranked 4th nationally and 3rd in the state!
Even if they were not among the top three, Stella Folland and Henri Paquet received bronze medal! I am incredibly proud of these amazing students and their achievements. Please join me in congratulating them on their remarkable success! Thank you to the families for their incredible support!
Family-Staff Organization (FSO) Updates
THANK YOU Families!
A huge thank you for all of the love sent our way as Hidden River celebrated Educator Appreciation Week last week. The notes and snacks went a long way in lifting staff spirits - and the mini-massages sponsored by our FSO were the perfect little relaxing treat in the middle of a busy Friday. THANK YOU!!

Week 29 Share Power (Respect me)
This Week’s Focus: Take each other seriously and treat each other fairly. This is a great way to SHARE POWER through family relationships.
When you have a few minutes, ask other family members a question or two. Enjoy the conversation!
What are ways you show respect for each other in your family? Are there things family members do without thinking that may feel disrespectful, even though they aren’t intended to be?
- Who is someone at school or work who respects you? How do they show respect?
- What was a time when you were treated unfairly or disrespectfully? How did you deal with it or respond?
- What kinds of things make you increase how much you respect someone? What can reduce your respect for another person?
- How does respecting each other make your family life better?
