Safety Update
Dear Parents,
I am writing to inform you about an important update regarding the safety measures on our campus.
In our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff, we have recently implemented increased safety protocols following recommendations from the City of Peoria School Liaison Officers. Beginning last week, all classroom and hallway doors will be kept locked during the school day.
This measure is designed to enhance the security of our school environment, allowing us to better manage and monitor access to the campus. By keeping these doors locked, we aim to create a more secure atmosphere and provide an additional layer of protection for everyone on school grounds.
We understand that this change may prompt some questions or concerns, and we want to assure you that our staff is well-trained to handle these new protocols efficiently. Teachers and staff members carry keys so they can open doors for the movement of students around campus without disrupting the flow of the school day. Students have already practiced new procedures to move about the campus. We have installed two sets of doorbells at the office and one for the library so that the door can be opened for them in an efficient manner.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we take these important steps to safeguard our school community. I want to reassure you that no significant event prompted this new protocol, only our desire to add an additional layer of protection that is easily implemented. Your partnership in ensuring a safe learning environment is appreciated.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Shelly Schubert
Principal
DVUSD Heat Procedures
DVUSD heat advisory precautions are designed to protect students from incurring heat related illnesses or problems. West Wing follows the heat index chart (pictured) from the National Weather Service to determine heat advisory levels. In the event of a heat advisory students will receive indoor recess options. Please make sure your child has a labeled water bottle daily.

Office Reminders
- We do not sign out kids 15 minutes before dismissal (3:15 is the cutoff).
- Phone messages are delivered to students at 2:30. If there is a pick up change, please call our office before 2:30.
- For those who are interested in volunteering in classrooms and/or attending field trips, you will need to attend a one time district volunteer training (class locations and times can be found at www.dvusd.org). If you have already taken the training you must come in to the front office to update your information. Volunteers only need to attend the training once for the entire time their child attends a DVUSD school.
Volunteers and Visitors
Please be sure to bring your ID into the office when you check-in. All volunteers and visitors are scanned in and a sticker is printed for you to wear while on campus. Please stop in the office to scan your badge when you depart campus. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
