Bridge Bulletin

Principal Chat
And that's a wrap! The 2023-2024 school year has officially ended. This is the final newsletter until August. Have a safe and fun summer break and we will see you soon - hopefully at Neptune Skating on June 26 for our FREE Family Fun Night. Information will be sent via email and posted on social media.
PROGRESS REPORTS - Progress reports are a tab on your student's PLP or KLP (the personal learning plans teachers email to you). Progress reports show your child's growth in reading, writing (2+) and math. We do not give "grades" as reporting on their progress shows you how much they have grown since the beginning of the year as not every student begins in the same place. A hardcopy of the progress report is placed in your child's permanent file in the office and will move with them if they change schools, or when they leave Bridge for junior high.
CLASS LISTS - our office should have class lists posted on the front foyer doors on the afternoon of Friday, June 7. You will receive an email when the lists are posted.
COMMUNITY CONNECTION CORNER - Please read further below for Ms. Chelsea's words of wisdom. This week she is talking about the value of BOREDOM! Managing boredom is a lifelong, significant and beneficial skill for kids to learn to navigate.
STAFF HIGHLIGHT - Meet our teacher specialists in our final staff highlight. These amazing individuals teach all the "other" content required by the state - other than reading and math.
ICYMI - this is the link to our website for all previous news bulletins:

Please keep reading for more information about this past week and events for the upcoming weeks.
As always, thank you for CHOOSING Bridge and sharing your kids with us! We know you have lots of options in education and we are honored that you have made the choice to have your students attend our awesome school!
Thank you for another wonderful year with your kiddos! We feel truly blessed that you chose Bridge for the 2023-2024 school year and we look forward to seeing most of you next year.

We LOVE to see what fun our Bullfrogs are having during summer break. Please email pics of your kiddos having fun this summer - at the zoo, Lagoon, the park, Paris, Disneyland, Hawaii, Roy Aquatic Center, ANYWHERE! Send your pics to Lani@BridgeCharter.org and Mrs. Rounds (aka Ms. Lani) will upload them to our social media pages (FB and IG). If you don't "do" social media, You can see the live feed at the bottom of our webpage at https://www.bridgecharter.org/
School Supply List
The school supply list for next school year is posted on our website. It is a community list which means all items go into the staff workroom and teachers take what they need for their classroom. Please do not label the items with your child's name.

Help Stop the Summer Slide
Summer Slide - students losing academic skills, is a real thing, especially for students who are not yet at grade level, or who are barely at grade level! However, YOU can help reduce the size of the slide. HOW can you help?
READING - read with your kids and to your kids. Talk about what you read! For readers, set a one minute timer and have them read some text. Repeat this a few times, with the SAME text to see if they improve their fluency. Video your kids reading aloud and then have them listen to themselves to check for fluency and expression. Video them again reading the same text to see if they improve their fluency and expression.
BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE - background knowledge is a HUGE predictor of reading success. Take your kids places - expose them to museums, the zoo, hiking trails, amusement parks, the ocean, the mountains, rivers, lakes, etc. The MORE they explore the more their background knowledge expands. Use the RAMP 2024 FREE Family Activity List list for fun summer field trips!
IMAGINE LEARNING -this is active for most of the summer. Reward your kids for continuing their 20-30 minutes daily in reading and math. You can find the links on our website at:
https://www.bridgecharter.org/curriculum-assessment
K-2 PHONEMIC AWARENESS - Heggerty has a fantastic summer program you can access online. It includes online videos and lessons! It only takes about 15 minutes daily.

Lynette Johnson - Social Studies
Hi, I’m Lynette Johnson and I teach social studies here at Bridge. I love history, government, geography, economics – all the awesome social studies stuff. It is so much fun to see kids make connections between what we talk about in class and their lives. I have a Bachelor's degree in history teaching from BYU and a masters degree in American history from the University of Utah. I spent nine years teaching high school history and English before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Now I get to teach two of my four kids and a whole bunch of your kids at Bridge.
Besides teaching, I love learning new things and being outdoors. My favorite ways to learn are reading, listening to podcasts, and asking questions. Outside I enjoy hiking and camping with my family, running with my husband, and watching for unusual things in nature. I also love to travel. I have a goal to visit all the National Parks and all fifty states.(I’m currently at thirty-nine states). I love that as we learn and explore we can feel part of a larger community. I hope that my social studies students leave my class with a better understanding of their place in the world and how they can make a difference.

Mariah Pickard - Library & Visible Learning
Hello! My name is Mariah and I am thrilled to be a part of the Bridge Elementary team. I recently graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, minoring in Family Studies. I have provided educational, behavioral, and mental health services to children and adolescents for many years and it has become one of my greatest passions.
I am the youngest of five children and am the self-proclaimed favorite aunt to 11 nieces and nephews. My husband and I live in Syracuse and spend most of our time bingeing shows, playing video games, and playing with our two cats. I enjoy singing, playing guitar, baking yummy treats, and spending time with family and friends.
Lindsey Smith - Science
My name is Lindsey Smith and I am the Science Specialist for Bridge Elementary. I have the best job in the whole school. I LOVE teaching science and I LOVE getting students excited about learning. It makes me happy when I see students enthusiastic about my science lessons. I have been teaching for 9 years, 4 of those years have been here at Bridge Elementary. My favorite color is green. Favorite season is winter. And my favorite animal is a turtle.
