Week 8 Term 1, Friday 24 March
Principal's Comment
Kia ora Parents and Caregivers
We have two weeks of term one remaining. We finish on Thursday 6 April and return to school on Monday 24 April (ANZAC Day is Tuesday 25 April).
Today a hard-copy guide of how to connect to our new communication app 'Hero' has been sent home with children. We aim to get 100% of our families connected by the end of the term. As mentioned previously we need to have your email address on our data base for you to be able to connect. Please contact the school office if you need to update your details.
This morning we held our 'Whanau Friday' rotation. Every second Friday our children are grouped in mixed age classes to take part in fun activities. The goal is for children and staff across the school get to know each other better. Check out some action shots below!
Have an awesome weekend!

Introducing our new wellbeing specialist
We are so fortunate to have the services of two wellbeing specialists supporting our children at Onekawa School this year.
You may already have met Penny who has worked with our children for the last five years.
Phoenix has joined Penny this year to support tamariki at school.
If you wish to speak with either Phoenix or Penny please talk to us in the office and we will give you their contact details.
Here is an introduction from Phoenix:
Kia ora my name is Phoenix. I am a Wellbeing Specialist at Onekawa Primary School. My academic background is in Child and Family Psychology. I have just recently moved to the Hawkes Bay from Ōtautahi, Christchurch where I worked in several primary schools in Rangiora, providing wellbeing support.
I am available to work with students both individually and in groups, as well as supporting whānau and staff to understand and cope with challenges they may experiencing, such as anxiety; friendships; emotional regulation; school refusal; disengagement; grief and transitions.
In a safe environment or at home, I can assist people in developing the necessary
coping skills and providing the right support, advice, and guidance to increase the
chances of overcoming the challenges they come across in life.
Nga mihi,
Phoenix
Start of school day
Our first school bell rings at 8:30am for children to enter school. If a child does arrive earlier they are required to sit in the seated area.
Please ensure children are not at school before 8:20am as we are unable to provide supervision.
If your child needs to be dropped off earlier please use the 'Schools Out' service which operates from the hall (there is a cost for this). Logan is the manager and his number is 027 418 7197.
Click the link below to get instructions on how to download our new school app!
Only parents with email addresses listed on our student management system can access the app.
Please contact the school office if you need to update your email address on our system.
