A Time for Reflection and Planning
For our on-campus students, Fall Break begins this weekend. In some respects, it seems like things are just getting started, but I see the coming week as the perfect point to take a moment to reflect on how our semester is going and to think about the journey that lies ahead. And of course, we can all use some time to catch up on some sleep! Or go to a conference ... or make a dent in that reading we have been meaning to do ... or ... you get the idea.
Break is also a great time to start planning your spring classes. You can browse the spring class schedule now, and you can start meeting with your faculty adviser or program director on October 25. Registration for spring classes begins at 9 am on November 5. I encourage you to register as soon as you are able!
While getting our academic house in order is important, Fall Break is also an important time to take stock of our mental health and overall wellness. Please know that Villanova University has resources available to help you cope with issues that may arise during your time here. The University Counseling Center and the Student Health Center provide confidential services for students. Campus Ministry offers a wealth of opportunities including retreats, worship and service programs. And don't forget about the University's numerous fitness and recreation opportunities, including access to the Davis Center, fitness classes and intramurals.
Wishing you a restful fall break, and a productive, and healthy, rest of the fall semester!
- Emory Woodard, PhD, Dean of Graduate Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Call for Submissions to Get Woke Nova
Get Woke Nova is a student-led campus campaign that began in the Spring of 2017 as part of a senior project for four communication majors. The campaign was created to facilitate dialogue around allyship by sharing stories of injustices that have occurred on Villanova's campus. In the last few years, the campaign has grown, but maintains the mission to promote dialogue around issues of diversity, inclusion, equity and allyship on Villanova's campus.
Currently, our stories primarily derive from undergraduate students. However, as we continue to grow, we want to make sure the voices we are sharing are representative of the larger Villanova community, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and other community members. If you are interesting in sharing your story, you can find guiding questions and the submission form here. If you have any questions, concerns, or are interested in partnering with our campaign in a different capacity, please feel free to email us at getwokenova@gmail.com. In the meantime, check us out on instagram @getwokenova!
