Pointer Press
September 22th, 2024 Vol 4
Welcome Sparrows Point Middle School families to the weekly Pointer Press!
Message from Mr. Eiswert
SPMS Community
We had another great week at The Point. Students continue to demonstrate Pointer PRIDE each and every day. In and out of the classroom, students can be seen supporting each other and working to make SPMS a better place for all. My administrative team and I have the privilege to get into every classroom each day. What we see are dedicated students and teachers working every day to develop positive relationships and work together to reach learning outcomes. I continually feel blessed to be part of this learning community.
We reach the halfway point of the 1st quarter Friday, September 27th. Students will be creating a progress sheet on Wednesday to take home for you to review. This progress sheet will identify their current grade and what students identify as what they need to make improvements. Please examine this and Schoology and don't hesitate to reach out to teachers if you have questions or concerns. As we enter the 5th week of the school year, students should have a firm grasp of where all their classes are and how much time they need to get to class, ready learn. We will begin instituting occasional hall sweeps in order to improve the urgency students have in getting to class on time. Please work with us to instill the importance of punctuality. We will be conducting a morning bus evacuation drill on Tuesday morning. Bus evacuations occur each year to be prepared in case of an emergency on the bus. It is a quick process and does not interfere with students being on time for 1st period.
Have a great week Point!
Eric

Battle of the Books Club- Mr. Wise and Mrs. Michael are co-sponsoring The Battle of the Books Club! Over the course of this school year, participants will read 10 Black-Eyed Susan middle grade books chosen by the public library. Come spring, students will compete in a trivia competition against other local area middle schools. Students who read all 10 books are also eligible to vote for the winner of the Black-Eyed Susan Award. The first interest meeting is after school next Tuesday, September 24th until 3:45pm. This is a great way to foster love of reading and give students the experience of being part of a team. Please encourage students to attend if they enjoy reading, competition, or are looking for a new club!
Hispanic Heritage Month- Starting from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month will be celebrated. Let's celebrate!
