Hornet Family Update, 8.25.2024
Holly Ridge Middle School Families,
We were thrilled to connect with everyone at our Open House on Thursday and the 6th Grade Hornet Camp on Friday. We can’t wait to officially welcome our students back on Tuesday, August 27th, for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Here’s to an amazing year ahead!
We would like to send a special thank you to our PTA for providing our staff with breakfast on their first day back to school! The food was wonderful and greatly appreciated!
New Information:
Student Services Information: The Student Service Team is excited to kick off the 2024-2025 school year and is eager to support the needs of all our students. To better serve our school community, we’ve designed the Family Needs Assessment to gather your valuable insights. Your feedback will help us understand your needs, preferences, and challenges, enabling us to enhance our programs and support services.
By participating, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of our school. The survey is brief, confidential, and will take just a few minutes of your time.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school’s success!
Elective Change Request Information: The process to request elective changes will take place through a link on the Student Services Website at the end of the school day on Tuesday, August 27th and close at the end of the school day on Thursday, August 29th. You will also be able to find the link on The Holly Ridge Middle Homepage. The online form will be the only way to request a change. Please see criteria below for being able to change an elective. Be aware that, due to class sizes, we will not be able to accommodate every request received. We are not able to accept requests for changes to Health/PE. If we are able to make the requested change, your student will receive a new schedule during homeroom.
Reasons to Request Elective Change:
I already took the class
I don't have the PreRequisite for the Class
I was placed in an elective I did not request (this will be verified in Powerschools)
Reasons NOT to Request Elective Change:
I do not want the teacher
I changed my mind about the elective I requested
I want to be with a friend
6th Grade Hornet Families
Thank you so much for attending our Hornet Camp yesterday! We hope the camp was informative for both students and parents. Please find the parent presentation from the camp here for your reference: Parent Session Hornet Camp 2024. At the end of the presentation, there is a survey. We ask that you please take a moment to provide us with any feedback you have. Please reach out to let us know if you have any questions. We can’t wait to greet your students on Tuesday!
Directory Information: In accordance with WCPSS Board Policy 4700, there are times where the school is expected to share directory information with outside groups. Schools use directory information to publish items such as yearbooks, honor roll, and newsletters. At HRMS, we will take student privacy seriously. As such, we want to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to opt out of directing information being shared where that is possible. If you are requesting to opt out of your student’s information being shared, please do so by completing this form. If you have any questions, please contact Principal Jennifer Newby at jnewby@wcpss.net.

Information Shared in Previous Update:
Bus Transportation Information
On Friday, August 16th, WCPSS Transportation emailed parents updated Bus Route information for the 2024-2025 school year. This information contains student route number, bus stop, and estimated times of arrival for both the morning and afternoon. Please be sure to review this information prior to the first day of school. As a reminder, students should be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before the bus is expected to arrive at the stop. For additional information, you may visit Home Base at www.wcpss.net/student-information.
Carpool Information
As we prepare for the upcoming school year, please be advised that we will continue to have two carpool lanes due to the continued construction on Holly Springs Road. We will use both our campus and Holly Ridge Elementary School campus. Therefore, we are asking our parents/guardians not to line up for afternoon (PM) carpool until 2:45 PM. This will limit the amount of traffic sitting and waiting on both campuses.
In order to expedite the carpool process, please be sure your student is informed of the correct carpool lane for drop off and pick up. Please refer to the Holly Ridge Middle School Carpool document for more details.
Calendars for 2024-2025:
Fall Athletic Tryouts: Information about fall sports tryouts is available at this link: Athletic Requirements and Tryout Information. Students must be fully eligible and cleared prior to participating in workouts or tryouts. Please contact Athletic Director Moss (smoss@wcpss.net) with any questions.
Online Payments: As of July 1, 2024, SchoolCash Online (SCO) will be the district’s preferred online payment system, allowing parents to pay for student feed and all other items except Before/After School Care, Drivers Education, and game tickets.
The new system will save time for teachers and staff when planning, processing, and handling payments. This system will replace Online School Payments (OSP).
You may visit https://wcpss.schoolcashonline.com/ to register and create your account. If you have any questions, please contact our bookkeeper Samanda Tillage, stillage@wcpss.net. Thank you!
School Meals: This will provide you with the current year meal prices as well as an avenue to reload money on your student’s lunch account.
Volunteers: Anyone who plans to volunteer during the 2024-2025 school year and did not register in the volunteer system last school year must register using the WCPSS volunteer system.
Volunteer Renewal: As a valued member of our volunteer community, we would like you to renew your volunteer status for the 2024-2025 school year. The volunteer renewal process is quick and simple for all volunteers who were approved for the 2023-2024 school year. The renewal window is now open through October 1, 2024. Go to the My Volunteer Renewal Site to renew your volunteer status today! The process should only take a few minutes. Once approved, the renewal date in your MyVolunteer profile will be updated.
All 2023-2024 approved volunteers received an email on July 1 from no-reply@criminalrecordcheck.com with a link to renew your approved volunteer status for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you have any issues during the renewal process, contact the MyVolunteer customer support team at 877-272-0266 or customercare@mycrc.com.
2024-2025 School Procedures - Student/Family Handbook:
Please take a moment to review our Student/Family Handbook for 2024-2025. This document provides you with a wealth of information about Holly Ridge Middle School procedures including arrival and dismissal, school policies, and other important information for our families.
Please note there is a change to our technology and cell phone policy this school year which may be found on page 5 of the handbook. It is also captured below for your reference.
Student phones should not be used in instructional spaces, as students should have access to their WCPSS laptop each day. If a student has a phone and chooses to bring it into the classroom, the phone should be silent and kept in a bag. Cell phones or other electronic devices are not permitted in the restrooms or locker rooms.
