CSD Proclamation Reaffirming Support of Each District Student and Family
Dear CHS Families,
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, our Board of Directors reaffirmed Centennial School District’s unwavering commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all individuals. Through the adoption of a proclamation, we proudly stand in support of every student and family in our community. Centennial High School and the entire school district remain fully dedicated to protecting ALL students’ right to a free and equitable public education. We believe that the diversity of our school community is our greatest strength, and we are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment for all. Thank you for being part of our Centennial family. Together, we continue to build a community where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
Sincerliy,
Marin Miller, Ed.S.

A huge thank you to our CHS Black Student Union (BSU) for planning and facilitating our February Spirit Dress Days all this week and for organizing impactful Black History Month learning experiences throughout February! Your dedication to celebrating diversity, educating our community, and creating inclusive spaces is truly appreciated. These efforts align with CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #3: Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership, ensuring that all voices are heard and valued. Thank you to everyone who participated, and a special shoutout to CHS BSU for your leadership in making our school and community stronger!
CHS MESA Students Explore STEAM at PSU. On February 12th, CHS students in our MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program had an incredible opportunity to visit Portland State University's Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science for a day-long, hands-on STEAM experience! Through interactive invention education, students engaged in science, technology, engineering, and math learning, expanding their skills and curiosity in these essential fields. This experience directly supports CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27:
- GOAL #4: Ensuring Equitable Access to High-Quality Academics
- Centennial Profile of a Graduate
It was a fantastic learning experience for all involved, and we are proud of our students for taking on this challenge! Way to go, CHS MESA students!
Centennial Drama Shines at Regionals. On Saturday, Feb. 1st, 27 Centennial Drama Department students competed at the Regional Acting Competition at Barlow High School—and they crushed it! 26 out of 31 scenes qualified for Nationals with at least one superior score! That is an incredible achievement!
Regional Finalists (Top 20% but not moving on to State)
- Riley Moore & Ben Anderson – Duo Novice Comedic Acting
- Nicole Allen – Solo Acting Experienced
- Sarah Johnson – Solo Acting Experienced
- Audrey De La Paz – Solo Acting Experienced
State Qualifiers (Top 10% – Competing in April!)
- Francis Stewart – Solo Acting Experienced

We are incredibly proud of all our drama students for their hard work, dedication, and professionalism! They represented Centennial with excellence and received numerous compliments on their performances and behavior. Way to go, CHS Drama! We can’t wait to see you shine at State and Nationals!
During Wednesday’s Advisory, all CHS students reviewed our school’s achievement, survey, and on-time data, providing valuable feedback on how to make our Eagle Nation even stronger. Engaging students in analyzing, evaluating, and offering input on schoolwide data will be an ongoing practice because every voice matters in our community. Their insights help drive positive change and ensure that we all achieve together. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this important process! Your involvement directly supports CSD’s Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Goal #3: Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership, as well as the Centennial Profile of a Graduate.
Our Winter Sports teams are having an outstanding season! From our Boy's Basketball team battling through two thrilling overtime games this week and staying in the hunt for the league and state playoffs to our Cheer team delivering exceptional performances—it's been an exciting week for our athletes. As we celebrate these achievements, we also want to remind everyone that Spring sports kick off on March 3rd, and registration is now underway! If you're interested in joining a team, stop by the athletic office to get cleared or check if you qualify for reduced fees. A current physical (within the last two years) is required to participate. A huge thank you to our students, staff, families, and community members for your continued support of our Eagles. Your enthusiasm and dedication help strengthen our community and align with CSD’s Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Goal #3: Centering Student Voice, Empowerment, & Leadership.
Trimester 2 Progress Reports have been mailed home! Please check your mail for your student’s report card. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s progress, reach out to their teacher for more information and support.
Finally, if you're watching the Super Bowl this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for our very own Elmer Eagle! He will be making a special appearance alongside other OSAA mascots during a Super Bowl commercial. We’re so proud to see Elmer Eagle representing Centennial and the pride we all have in our Eagle nation on such a big stage—Go, Eagles!
Remember, "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle" at CHS!

CHS Counselor's Corner:
Message from CHS Counselors - Ways to Take Care of Yourself:
To be successful in school everybody needs to take care of themselves. There are various
- Ways to Take Care of Yourself: For example:
Say no to anything that is not important to you
Give yourself permission to focus on what’s important. Getting the unessential responsibilities
off your schedule will not only create some extra time and space, but it will also lighten the
burden you’re feeling to keep up with it.
- Limit your media consumption…especially social media
Because our brain can only process a limited amount of information at a time.
- Get enough sleep
This old advice is not only essential when it comes to self-care, it’s particularly important when it
comes to exam periods and work stress, sleep will help you achieve success.
- Listen to your favorite music
Calm music will help you calm down. Pick music that won’t distract you (like music without lyrics
or in a foreign language). Your favorite music will boost your mood and keep you happy, no
matter how tired you are.
To be continued.

Inclement Weather - Be Ready! Reminder
With the colder winter months just around the corner, we want to remind families and staff of the procedures used by our District when inclement weather occurs.
The Centennial School District maintains a preparedness plan for the monitoring of inclement weather and potential weather-related impacts on school operations, including our facilities and road safety for transportation. As these impacts are evaluated, there may be changes to the school schedule, such as a school closure, a delayed start to the school day, or an early dismissal. Snow routes for our school buses will also be used when road conditions are deemed unsafe by our Transportation Department staff.
When inclement weather causes changes such as these, we will notify our staff and families using multiple methods:
- ParentSquare messaging (text, email, app notifications, and/or voicemail). If you need assistance registering for the ParentSquare app, please contact your school office.
- Centennial School District website: www.csd28j.org
- Social Media (Facebook: CentennialSD28j / Instagram: centennial_schools)
- Flash Alert notifies local news stations. Individuals can subscribe to receive FlashAlert updates for Centennial School District here: http://www.flashalert.net/id/centennialsd
Parents/caregivers, if your email address or phone number has changed in the last year, please contact your school office to ensure we have your up-to-date contact information.
