Student of the Month - May
Every month the staff nominates and then votes on students for the Student of the Month award. For the month of May the winner is 10th grader, Taegan Ronan! Here are some of the things that teachers had to say about Taegan:
- I honestly can't imagine a student more deserving of this award. Taegan is a joy to have in class, both as a student and as a peer. As a student, she has shown immense growth in her writing this year -- she utilizes class time well, she seeks out flex block time/extra help when she feels she needs it, she advocates for herself when she has questions, and she is self-aware about her own skills and areas for improvement. She views feedback as a valuable opportunity to continue to learn and grow, rather than an opportunity to just "see what she got" as a grade. She also demonstrates a clear enjoyment in learning every day -- she engages in discussions and activities meaningfully and actively, she takes academic risks and isn't afraid to be "wrong," and she has just a generally all-around positive demeanor. She has fun learning, and she makes learning fun for her classmates, as well. As a peer, she is considerate, friendly, and welcoming to everyone. I always know I can put her in any seat or with any group/partner, and she will work effectively with anyone around her. I have never seen Taegan without a smile, a laugh, or a kind word about someone or something. She is the type of student any teacher would love to have!
- I wholeheartedly nominate Taegan Ronan for student of the month. I have seen so much growth in Taegan in these two years. She is such a positive influence in and outside of the classroom. She is driven, passionate, and so thoughtful. I especially wanted to say how wonderful Taegan was on a recent Facing History field trip. She sought me out to attend the field trip because she was so interested in the topics we study in Facing History, though she hasn't gotten the chance to take the class (yet). During the field trip and when we reflected as a group, she had so many thoughtful things to say and shared her ideas honestly and respectfully. I was so impressed with her compassion, her empathy, her courage to share her opinions, and her enthusiasm for learning. I continue to be impressed by her, even though she is not in my classroom this year. I know she will continue to grow and she is going to do wonderful things in our community.
- I feel lucky that I got the chance to work with Taegan; her teachers would agree. Taegan is a respectful, enthusiastic student who represents what it means to be a member of our school community. The highlight that teachers and I would bring up is how supportive Taegan is to fellow students. Taegan has developed strong connections with her peers and is willing to work with anyone in her classes. Even if a student is in another class or grade, Taegan will take the time to find a solution to help that student. Those students she has helped were grateful for the support. Next year will be tough because I will have to find another Taegan Ronan to work with...not an easy task!
- Taegan is the kind of student that brightens a room when she enters it; I feel lucky and grateful to have had her this year as my student. This year, Taegan has used her Spanish outside the classroom to help translate community members participating in dance classes. She has also taken on the role of Spanish Club treasurer for next year and has already begun planning fundraising ideas for the club. Taegan is so deserving of this award and I hope she continues to be a positive leader in the future!
- Taegan is a pleasure to work with and has demonstrated a lot of growth throughout the last two years. Taegan is a great advocate for both herself and others. She has strong values and she works hard to stay true to herself and do the right thing.
Please congratulate Taegan if you see her in the building! Thank you to the HPTO and ReMax for sponsoring this award!

Civics Project
For a student history civics project, we are running this google form to collect student and teacher opinions on 10th grade MCAS, as it has been a debate in the Massachusetts education system for a while. This data directly from students and teachers is a first, and will be collected from other schools around Massachusetts as well.
