Pioneer Post
BJHS Week of October 7-11, 2024
We acknowledge and are mindful that Bidwell Jr. High School stands on lands that were originally occupied by the first people of this area, the Mechoopda, and we recognize their distinctive spiritual relationship with this land, the flora, the fauna, and the waters that run near campus. We are humbled that our campus resides upon sacred lands that since time immemorial has sustained the Mechoopda people and continues to do so today.

Parent 101 Message of the Week
Parents, as a friendly reminder, if you’re not sure whether or not your kiddo is well enough to attend school (sniffles, tummy ache, “just not feeling well,” etc.) please consider sending your student to school to see if they feel better after a class period or two. In many cases, students in these scenarios are plenty well enough to attend school and not fall behind in their school work. Of course, we trust your instincts as a parent. We just want to give you some additional info in case you suspect “avoidance” on your student’s part.”

Staff Recognitions
Positive Pioneer - Alicia Leonard
The Positive Pioneer carried a heavy load at the start of the school year. They were instrumental in creating a smooth opening, with grace and a "We can do this attitude" or a "It will be fine, we will make it work" attitude.
They are a natural leader and expert in their job. They are always ready to offer help and support for staff and students alike. They are firm but fair dealing with students and are compassionate to students when they are in situations out of their control.
They are a very proud parent and have on more than one occasion stated that they love Bidwell and do not want to work anyplace else.
This Positive Pioneer is the face of our school as they greet and help each peroson who walks throught the door.
They also have the patience of a saint as they listen to yet another tardy excuse which states "Traffic was bad" as both the parent and kid sip their Dutch Bros.
We are very lucky to have her. This award goes to Alicia Leonard.
Collaborative Colleague - Durell Siplin
I appreciate Mr. Siplin for his proactive approach to connecting with students. The conversations/agreements he has with students before classroom issues (and timely communication with me the teacher) have helped improve student behaviors in the classroom.
Brian Horne
Out and About - Lynny Jones
Lynny Jones is a constant presence in the Covered Area as well as the Flagpole area during Nutrition Break. Ms. Jones is extra intentional with her student interactions whenever she is making her way from one place to another. While supervising, she is constantly spreading her upbeat, positive attitude amongst our students. For this reason, I am happy to award Lynny Jones the Out-and-About Award for the month of September.
Congratulation, Lynny!

Bidwell Foundation Fundraiser Thank You!
Friends of Bidwell, you did it again!!
The BJHS Foundation Board of Directors would like to thank you for helping to make the September 20, fundraiser at Sin of Cortez restaurant an overwhelming success. This was our sixth annual fundraiser and proved to be one of the best ever. According to Sin of Cortez owner, Danielle Ius, this is her favorite fundraiser to sponsor. She said, “The Friends of Bidwell always make this a successful event.” Your participation was key to that success. We couldn’t have done it without you. The proceeds will be used to fund BJHS staff requested grants that support and enhance the learning for all BJHS students.
Thanks a bazillion!

Bidwell Counseling Food Drive
Upon entering counseling, students struggling with regulation are often asked, ‘Have you had a meal today?’ Surprisingly, many haven’t. We’ve been fortunate to have the Bidwell Foundation’s backing. This year, we’re also seeking the Bidwell community’s support to sustain our efforts in addressing students’ basic needs. Contributions of all sizes, as listed in the attached flyer, are greatly appreciated.

Parent/Community Involvement
* PTA: We are blessed with a committed Parent Teacher Association. Please click here for more information about how to join and/or support your PTA--whose sole mission is to support Bidwell students and staff. If you'd like to hear some parent testimonials about PTA involvement, please check out this quick video here.
* Facebook: Click here to join our lively, community-building, and informative Bidwell Facebook community. While 99% of questions asked in this forum have already been addressed in the weekly school newsletter or in the attachments here, it is nonetheless a place to ask questions about Bidwell life and get timely responses from other parents (including many who are junior high "veterans") as well as Bidwell staff. It's a positive place, so please read and follow the community guidelines. I also send out regular "School Climate Update" videos designed to provide a concise "state of the school" briefing and solicit feedback from families on how to keep Bidwell continuously improving for the benefit of our students and staff. Click here if you'd like to browse through some videos from last year. These videos will go out directly through Parent Square just like this message.
