JBMS Spirit Week
From the Desk of Mr. Yelvington
Bear Nation,
Did you know that Bowie is predicted to be an A-rated campus? Yes, a judge recently blocked TEA from releasing accountability ratings, so officially there is no rating. But FBISD has taken all the results and compared it to how TEA would grade schools, and of the 83 schools in FBISD only 18 of them are predicted to be A-rated, and we are one of them! High-quality instruction is important to us. Our staff and students work hard each and every day to do their best. Know that your children are attending a great school where we are dedicated to growing all of our Bears.
It is our mission to cultivate independent, growth-minded, servant leaders; the growth-minded is about owning your learning. Being growth-minded is about seeing challenges as opportunities. As a parent, I have always wanted my children to be challenged early in their schooling. I want them to learn how to overcome challenges while I am there to help them navigate through them. Sometimes this meant we needed to learn how to study differently, other times it meant we did extra practice and other times it meant we failed and learned from that failure so we can do better next time. I always wanted my children to experience this early because I did not want them to be off on their own at college and not know how to handle things when they became challenging. I hope that we push your child to be their best. I hope that at times it becomes uncomfortable and that they learn how to be growth-minded. I hope you know that we care about our Bears as we prepare every child to be independent, growth-minded- servant leaders.
Have a great 3-day weekend,
Mr. Yelvington

NWEA MAP Computer-Adaptive Assessments
Beginning this year, students in Fort Bend ISD will complete NWEA MAP computer-adaptive assessments three times a year to gain information about what students know and what they are ready to learn next. MAP also gives insight into how students are growing academically, allowing you to track your student's progress throughout the school year and across multiple years. Families will have access to their child's results after each testing window. NWEA MAP is replacing Renaissance 360. For more information, visit the NWEA Family Toolkit or contact your child’s teacher. NWEA Family Toolkit: https://www.nwea.org/family-toolkit/

Whole Child Health Initiative
Dear Parents,
I want to draw your attention to the FBISD Whole Child Health Webpage. We include this in all of our newsletters but it can easily be overlooked. This page has many different resources for students and families to access. For example links to See Something Share Something, 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline which is for 24 hour/7 days a week immediate emotional support, and 211 Get connected with help for many other needs people may have. You will also find tabs that have resources for students and parents where information about talking to a counselor is recommended along with information about our mental health partners.
