Winter 2025- Mrs. Kopac
Northfield Performs at Winter Arts Festival
Congratulations to the Northfield Elementary 4th graders on an excellent Winter Arts Festival performance. You did really well and you should all be very proud of yourselves. A link is shared below that will take you to all of the musical programming from that special day.
All-State Children's Chorus Performance 2025
Good luck to 4th grade student, Asher Elberson, who will be representing Northfield at the All State Choir performance in Cleveland on February 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Huntington Convention Center. This is a select choir with members from all over the state of Ohio that will be performing at the Ohio Music Education Association conference.💚
Semester 1 Comes to a Close
To end the semester this month, all classes will be experiencing music emphasizing the MLK holiday. -Whether through listening, singing, rhythm reading, movement or a combination. Classes will be making further connections to the history of some of the freedom songs from the civil rights movement as we look at African American spirituals moving into February and our activities for Black History Month.
Recorder Playing in 3rd and 4th Grade
3rd grade recorder playing skills and note reading are progressing nicely. If you have not heard your child play their recorder at home, ask them to share a song or two with you. The classes have several favorite songs that we play and they are all accessible in Quaver music on their chrome books. They also have song material in their folders that they can share.
4th grade students need to continue bringing recorders and folders to every music class. They just finished a review of notes that we have already learned and will be using their recorder skills to begin to learn about improvisation.
All 3rd and 4th grade students should be practicing their recorder skills at home at least once each week. Students are told that even if you aren't allowed to blow the recorder at home for differing reasons, just saying the letter names and moving the fingers on the holes silently is still a good way to practice and learn where the notes are.
Looking Ahead to Spring and the 2nd Grade Music Program
