Cedar Grove Friday Flash
January 17, 2025
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Last Monday, students and staff enjoyed attending the 5th grade chorus performance of their Winter Concert, and families were also able to enjoy the concert on Tuesday evening at Clarksburg High School. Students did a fantastic job with their performance, and we are so proud of their hard work. Thank you to our families for coming out to support our students, and special thanks to Mrs. Arellano for her time and energy preparing for and directing this wonderful concert.
Please see two opportunities for community engagement from the MCCPTA Clarksburg Cluster Coordinators:
1) Please take three minutes to fill out this Clarksburg Cluster Input Form to help inform the ongoing collaborative efforts of MCCPTA Clarksburg Cluster Coordinators and our cluster schools to gather information about topics that are important to our cluster's school communities.
2) Want to learn key strategies to save for college? Join the Clarksburg community and the College Funding Coach for a free online webinar on 2/6 @ 6:30 p.m. about the "Little Known Secrets of Paying for College". See flyer here to register.
As a reminder, schools and offices are closed on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Please see the following information/invitation from Damascus High School:
The Damascus High School Best Buddies program has been participating in the Maryland Cool Schools Polar Plunge for the past 4 years. Best Buddies spreads the message of inclusion for our peers with disabilities. Supporting Special Olympics is near and dear to our hearts and this year we would like to invite students and staff from our feeder Middle School and Elementary Schools to join us in taking the plunge this year! This is not a school sponsored event, so all students will be responsible for themselves or should bring their own adult if supervision is needed.

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Our January Media Monthly has been updated to reflect important information regarding the grade 5 book club and our music cafe schedule, as well as our lessons for the next two weeks. Students are logging minutes read for the Readathon as of Tuesday, January 14 and can continue logging minutes read through Tuesday, January 28. Please DO NOT log the minutes online. We need them on the yellow log sheet so we can verify titles, genres for the bonus points. After we've verified the titles, we will award the bonus points. Readers just need to log their "real reading" minutes. We're asking readers to pay attention to the various bonus minute opportunities that will happen throughout the readathon. They are announced on the daily news, which is also accessible here. There will be two opportunities to check in the reading minutes before the end of the readathon. On those days, readers need to bring their yellow log in sheets to their teacher or to Mrs. Hirschhorn and they will receive a new log in sheet in exchange. Read Aloud Night is part of this event, so save the date: January 23, 2025! Have a wonderful weekend!
