SEPTEMBER 18, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
During this third week of the school year, we started Support and Extension Time (S.E.T.). This is a 25-minute time during the school day when students can access additional supports, like tutoring, retaking assessments, or meeting with teachers. Students also choose the type of learning space to work in – silent study, collaborative study, or social spaces.
Students will have S.E.T. each day with few exceptions. This helps ensure students have time during the school day to access support and resources and/or get work done. It also provide the opportunity for students to practice life-long skills like organizing their time and learning to seek support when they need it.
Next week is our homecoming week! We look forward to ramping up school spirit. Families are invited to show solidarity and dress along with our spirit week themes each day: Monday - Pajama Day; Tuesday - Dress to Impress Day; Wednesday - College Cheer Day; Thursday - Holiday Day (dress like your favorite holiday); Friday - Panther Spirit Day. Let’s go Panthers!
Next Thursday, September 26 we’ll kick off this year’s pulse checks. Watch for a text/email from our partner, Possip, asking you to share your experience with our school so far this year. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to answer a couple of quick questions. You can choose to share your name or remain anonymous. Sharing your name does help us follow up if needed.
Finally, a few students and families have asked about social media posts threatening schools. We’re aware of this and have been working with local law enforcement to monitor. There have not been any confirmed threats toward any of our Spring Lake Park Schools.
In the past week, across the country and state, there has been an increase in social media threats. Many of these threats come from "challenges" on social media apps like TikTok and Snapchat. While these threats are fake, they must still be taken seriously. This is a good time to reinforce responsible social media use. There are significant consequences for any involvement with social media “challenges” like these at school, including potentially getting arrested by law enforcement. We are continuing to monitor and will work with our law enforcement partners to support actions that keep our community safe.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support and partnership. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Principal
Mark your calendar: Caregiver Learning Events
This school year, Spring Lake Park Schools will offer events to help equip caregivers to support their children around social-emotional-behavioral and mental health well-being. We hope you can join us.
We ask that families RSVP for each event so we can prep for the discussion and have enough snacks/beverages for the group. Childcare will be available.

Schoology: What to know for 2024-2025
Student learning and reporting will continue to be done within the Schoology learning management platform. Parents and guardians can access Schoology and follow along. We are using Schoology Mastery at grades 7-12 to support a competency-based approach to learning.
You will continue to see student assignments and learning progress. Within Schoology, students (and families) will see links for Gradebook and Mastery. Gradebook is a more traditional view of student progress. Mastery shows the portfolio of work that aligns to the competencies.
Take a look at the handout Schoology: What to know for 2024-2025 for more information.
