From the Desk of Mrs. Weekes
Dear Los Pen Families,
Despite a rainy week with indoor recesses and lunches, there was still so much to celebrate at LPES this week. Kindness Week, organized by our Student Council with the help of Ms. Bailey, Ms. Bohn, and Mrs. Hnat, was a success, and we were able to honor our January Valedictorians at a small ceremony on Friday. We also recognized 2 classrooms for best overall attendance for December and January (Mrs. Repking - UAA - and Mrs. Carton - JMU) and 2 classrooms for most improved attendance over the last 2 periods (Mrs. Decremer - U of Illinois - and Mrs. Lougeay - U of Arizona).
If you have attended a Friday Flag ceremony this school year, you have probably heard me say LPES is the best place for students to be each and every day. I am proud to say that our attendance this school year each month has surpassed last school year's attendance, and even in rainy weather this month, we have surpassed the overall district attendance average on most days. However, we are aware that uncertainties about immigration enforcement activities continue to impact families in our community.
We understand that the weight of these uncertainties can be overwhelming, and we are steadfast in our responsibility to support all families. Please know that our school, and the rest of the Poway Unified School District, is committed to ensuring every child, no matter their immigration status, receives a safe and welcoming public education.
With that in mind, please know that we have strong policies in place to protect our students and families, which you can review here:
Additionally, on this site you will find many resources to assist families in understanding their rights as it pertains to education.
PUSD will not solicit or collect information about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families, nor will it assist with immigration enforcement at school sites, except as required by state or federal law.
Please know that we are here to support you. If your family is facing challenges, we encourage you to reach out to us directly.
Remember, there is no school next week in honor of President's Week. Enjoy a restful, fun and healthy break!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weekes
A Note from Your Counselor
This week, our school participated in the great kindness challenge. Kids took time to make complement rings, have their pictures taken at the "I am kind" banner and played a bingo game of kindness. Let this week be the start of many more days to come of how we can practice kindness with one another, in our community and at home . please see attached a kindness bingo card to help you and your family get started. I hope you all have a great week off and get more opportunities to share kindness in your everyday lives.
-Ms. Bohn

New Instructional Materials Adoption
Learning Support Services is pleased to announce that our Middle and High School teams have recommended new instructional materials for adoption. Our Middle Schools are recommending Amplify for English Language Arts in grades 6-8, and our High School team is recommending McGraw Hill’s Economics for economics courses. Both teams conducted thorough reviews to ensure alignment with state standards. ELA materials were evaluated using the CA ELA/ELD Framework and CA Common Core Standards, and the Economics materials were assessed based on the CA History-Social Science Content Standards and Framework. Poway Unified School District invites you to review these materials and provide feedback. The links below will take you to the pages where you can log in, review materials, and provide input (through March 10th).
