Update: Strategic Plan for Catholic Education
It has been a busy summer for all involved in developing our strategic direction for Catholic Education. To achieve our vision of ensuring Catholic Education is available to all who desire it for all time, we have identified nine points of focus: Catholic Identity, Community Needs and Agility, Academic Excellence, Student Enrichment, Great Place to Work, Marketing and Enrollment, Operational Excellence, Leadership and Governance, and Financial Viability.
For each focus point, specific measures of success have been established to exceed the standards established by the National Catholic Educational Association and the Middle States Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools. We are also creating workgroups to build some of our top priority initiatives including:
- Strengthening our Catholic Identity in collaboration with our Faith Formation teams
- Enhancing services for students with special needs
- Creating more robust middle school programs
- Designing and celebrating intentionally small schools
- Ensuring academic excellence in PreK-to-16 pathways, beginning with Science and STEAM
- Using virtual learning to expand course offerings
- Improving and automating enrollment management processes
- Implementing targeted marketing and both external and internal communications processes
- Identifying grants and funding opportunities to support our bold changes
In addition to launching these workgroups, during the next two months, we will:
- Work with school leaders to create a roadmap for each location to meet the unique needs of their communities
- Launch strategic thinking sessions with Faith Formation leaders to ensure we create a comprehensive plan for Catholic Education
- Meet with leaders in rural communities to find unique ways to achieve our Catholic Education goals across our Diocese
- Identify opportunities to achieve operational excellence and effective governance while alleviating administrative burdens for Principals, Directors of Religious Education, School Chaplains, and Pastors
As our Parish Families prayerfully consider the difficult decisions associated with our Road to Renewal, we find hope in the bright future that exists for the young people of our Diocese. It is our obligation and privilege to ensure our young people have the best opportunities to grow academically, emotionally, and especially spiritually. We look to the future with optimism and faith.

MTSS (Behavior): Bullying Prevention and Science Professional Development Opportunities
We are excited to announce professional development opportunities for educators and principals focused on the MTSS framework and science instruction. This summer, we will provide training on utilizing data to improve instruction and on identifying, navigating, and preventing bullying and cyberbullying in schools.
MTSS Framework Overview
The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Multi-Tiered System of Supports - Integrated (MTSS-I) Pilot Framework, launched in October 2023, aims to address students' unique needs holistically. It emphasizes responsiveness to students' social identity, culture, and language, with core principles of fairness and equity. These principles ensure access to opportunities and support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of every student across the state.
For more information, visit the NYSED MTSS-I Pilot Framework.

Virtues of the Month Program
We are excited to launch our newly revised character education program, the Virtues of the Month Program, aimed at strengthening Catholic identity in our schools. By teaching the Virtue of the Month and character traits, students will learn to live out their faith daily.
A virtue is a good quality or habit that encourages gratitude, honesty, and doing the right thing. Virtues help individuals become better people and improve their relationships with others. Character traits are the individual qualities or attributes that make up a person's overall character. This year will be a transitional period, integrating the teaching of virtues and connecting them with previously studied character traits.
Through this program, we aim to foster a nurturing environment where students can grow in their faith and character, becoming positive role models in their communities. We look forward to working together to make this program a success.

Please make sure to check your SIRS reports before Aug. 12. If you make any changes to 2023-2024 student records you must notify me so I can ask eSchool to manually run level 0 updates. This is in regards to any changes that have been made in eSchool since July 17th, the date of the roll-up to the new year for students. This is the final window to make any changes to the information for the 2023-2024 school year - and MUST be notified to me and eSchool.
During this time of year many new students are being added to or transferred out of your eSchool data base. Please make sure of the following:
PK students should all be marked to be excluded from state reporting and excluded from state attendance.
Home districts are added for all students - for the “from district” date please use one day before the registration date at your school, or the date they entered the district.
All transfer students need the code 170 for “out of district school”. There are no exceptions to this.
Queen of Heaven has some gently used uniforms they are willing to share with other schools who could make use of them. They have the following available: navy blue polos and khaki bottoms (as in pants, shorts, and skorts for girls) and also some navy blue bottoms in smaller sizes only that are from their Pre-K students. If you are interested you can reach out to Debbie Joseph at debbiejoseph@qofhschool.org.
