DCA Weekly Update
October 4, 2024
Message from the Principal
Dear DCA Students & Families,
Our DCA Goal is 100% of students will pass all of their classes and meet with success!
In order for this rich goal to be achieved, we need to work as a team.
Students - Here's what you can do:
1. Develop and follow a plan that helps you to stay on track with your coursework.
2. Ensure that you log into your classes and complete your work.
3. Go to office hours and the drop-In Center to get help.
4. Email or message your teacher and share what you need.
5. Study difficult concepts.
6. Inform your parent(s)/guardian(s), teachers, counselor or peers about any struggles you are having and work together to get/do what you need to succeed.
Families - Here's what you can do:
1. Read the Attendance Works document to help you support your teen with engaging in school.
2. Schedule regular check-ups with your child to discuss and VIEW what they are learning (Schoology).
3. Attend to your child's emotional needs and communicate with teachers, counselors, doctors, etc. to ensure your child has support.
4. Communicate concerns with teachers and counselors and work together to determine a plan of support.
We will reach out to studnets and families as well to schedule a meeting for students who are struggling. We are committed to ensuring that every student is valued, engaged, and instilled with the confidence and skills for future success.
Have a lovely weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kecia Nesmith

Upcoming Events
Neurodivergence In The Classroom
In recent years, educators have become increasingly aware of the need for practical and effective tools to address the unique learning styles of their neurodivergent students. In this hands-on workshop, Rick Silver, MD and Mary Jo Puglisi, LCPC will provide participants the opportunity to assess their own strengths and challenges working with this population of students; and to develop customized solutions to specific issues they face in the educational setting. This workshop will allow participants to manage learning-limiting behaviors and mindsets, build a more supportive learning environment and decrease classroom stress.
