For Advisors
Important Action Items for Advisors
- Please be mindful that the Monthly pay dates for November and December are on the last business day of the month and occur during UGA Holidays: Friday, November 29 and Tuesday, December 31. Your December paycheck no longer comes before the holidays.
- Please get any vacation requests in early. Deadlines for supervisor sign-offs are earlier for these months.
- For anyone who has more than 360 hours of vacation saved up: “The end of year also brings the 360 calendar year-end annual leave limit. To ensure annual leave is not lost in error, monthly leave requests must be entered and approved by the 12/19 deadline and Bi-weekly by the 12/23 deadline.”
Degree Works Downtime
- Degree Works will be down on Friday, November 1st. and it is also fall break, so if you have open appointments on Friday, you might wish to cancel them!

Degree Works and Fall Break (from Julia Butler-Mayes)
- DegreeWorks will be down next Friday (and through the weekend) during Fall Break for an upgrade. For those of you that plan to be in the office, please make note!
Pat Mitchell Reading (good for students to know about, too!)
Pat Mitchell will be at the Special Collections Libraries on November 4 at 6PM. She will be discussing her new book, Becoming a Dangerous Woman. You can learn more about her career and the event here.
- Pat is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature.

Regents’ Center for Learning Disorders SAGE Referral
- This new Regents’ Center for Learning Disorders referral is now active in SAGE
Undergraduate Certificate in Musical Theatre Performance
- The certificate has been approved effective Fall 2020.

Events for Advisors
Brooks Hall Halloween Trick-or-Treating
- Rebecca Baggett in the honorary position of soon-to-be retiree, will judge pet costume pictures in Brooks Hall on Thursday at 2pm. The winner will get a prize! All Brooks advisors are invited to post a picture of their pets in costume on their office doors and bring candy to hand out to visitors. All non-Brooks advisors are welcome to swing by to view the pictures and get candy.

Beinecke Scholarship
The Beinecke Scholarship for graduate study in the arts, humanities, or social sciences is a wonderful opportunity for talented third-year students who are committed to pursuing graduate study. (http://www.beineckescholarship.org/).
To be eligible, a student must:
Be a college junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree during the 2019-2020 academic year and expecting to receive a baccalaureate degree between December 2020 and August 2021.
Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during his or her undergraduate years (need-based institutional, state or federal grants-in-aid).
Have demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise. Competitive third-years will have a 3.9+ GPA.
Plan to enter a research-focused master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities or social sciences. Students planning to pursue graduate study in neuroscience or professional school (med, vet, law, business, public health or policy) do not meet the criteria for the award.
- Students can fill out an interest form if you send them this link or the can contact Elizabeth Hughes (ejhsears@uga.edu) by November 6. The campus deadline is December 6, 2019.
- Benefits: Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduate study as soon as possible following graduation from college, and must utilize all of the funding within five years of completion of undergraduate studies.
Stethoscope Magazine Scholarships
Stethoscope Magazine is proud to offer a merit-based scholarship open to all majors at the University of Georgia. The Leara Scholarship is a $500 scholarship to be used for furthering education. This semester we will be offering one scholarship for writing and one for photography/design.

Workshop: Effective Writing Skills for Success in College, Tuesday, October 29 at 3:30pm to 4:30pm, Zell B. Miller Learning Center, 214
In this workshop, students will learn the essentials of good sentence construction, the proper formatting expected per discipline, and strategies for avoiding high-frequency errors in college writing.

Students will learn from UGA’s Office of Academic Honesty about policies and strategies to avoid problems using technologies like Quizlet, CourseHero, Chegg, and GroupMe.

Happy Halloween! Put a costume on and come to the Memorial Hall Ballroom to learn Michael Jackson's "Thriller" dance. There will be candy, giveaways, and more information on the fitness and wellness programs and services offered at the Ramsey Student Center.
