Garden Volunteers Needed!
Parents, one of the special attributes of Mitchell Road Elementary is our beautiful gardens! We’re excited to offer our students hands-on learning experiences in our school garden but we need your help. Recently we had two organizations help clean up two of our three gardens and we need your support to keep the space ready for our students. To keep this educational space thriving, we’re reaching out for parent volunteers who may have gardening skills or simply an interest in helping out. Whether it’s lending a hand with planting, coming in for an hour each week to weed and help maintain the garden, or donating supplies, we’d love your support. Please let us know if you’re available to assist in any way by completing this Google Form.
Mustang Monday!
Our next Mustang Monday will be tomorrow, September 16! Students are invited to wear an MRES shirt or our school colors, blue and white, to celebrate our school spirit with staff.
Boy Scouts Sign Up Meeting
This Tuesday we will have a representative from Boy Scouts talk to students in the morning to tell about their programs. On Wednesday, September 18, there will be a representative by the gym from 5:00-6:00pm to sign up any students who are interested in joining. Parents can stop by during that afternoon to register.
Hughes Academy Magnet/Prospective Parent Night Open House
October 21, 2024
5:30 to 7:00
This meeting is for all interested magnet and prospective families!
Come and experience our 21st-century middle school activities from 5:30 to 7:00!
We will have an informational meeting about Hughes Academy and the Magnet Process from 6:00 to 6:30.
Challenge Book Panel
We have a need to assemble a panel of parents to help with reviewing books for the school that have been challenged (based on a new policy for the district). Book reviews have to be completed within 21 days of a challenge being submitted. The district policy requires 3 parent volunteers to be on the panel in addition to school personnel. This role would be ongoing throughout the school year on an as-needed basis. Your best contact info will be shared directly with Mrs. Holman to work directly with her on this task. If you would be interested to support this panel, please sign up at this link.
Girls on the Run
Help Keep Our Staff Caffeinated!
Parents, we have two coffee bars at school that have become more popular than expected! We would love any donations of disposable coffee cups with lids, individual coffee creamers, individual coffee pods, or individual sugar packets. Any variety of this would be very much appreciated. Donations may be dropped off at the front office during school hours to Jen Sandidge. Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our school!
Cell Phone / Personal Device Policy Reminder
In an effort to maximize academic instruction, limit electronic device distractions, and to provide more consistency and clarity for parents and students, we are providing the updated Cell Phone and Electronic Devices expectations, which were implemented last year and are still in effect for the 2024-25 school year:
For elementary and middle schools, personal electronic devices cannot be used by students during the instructional day without authorized permission by the principal or principal’s designee for unique events. This includes cell phones, smart watches, and other personal communication devices. All personal devices must remain out of sight of others and be silenced during this time.
Elementary school instructional day: 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Middle school instructional day: 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
This information is also found in our 2024-25 Student Handbook found here. Please reach out to me with any questions by contacting the front office.
Join the PTA!
PTA has created a school membership blitz! There is a tracker in the cafeteria. Classes who reach 100% membership will earn an ice cream party! Our PTA does so much for our school but they can only do so with the support of members like you. Join now at this link.
The PTA membership blitz board has been updated! Check out where your child's class stands. Remember memberships can be for any family member or friend.
Run Hard
The Run Hard program is starting soon and registration is now open! This is an afterschool program for boys and girls in 3rd - 5th grades that, according to their website, helps kids build the foundation for success in life by teaching them life values through the sport of running. It teaches teamwork, wise choices, how to show positive peer pressure, honesty, respect, leadership and perseverance while training everyone to finish a 5k in November!
Please email Jenni Finley jtfinley@greenville.k12.sc.us if you have questions.
