Volunteer Update

Tennessee 4-H Congress will be happening on March 19-22, 2023 in Murfreesboro, TN. A large part of Congress also takes place in Nashville at the State Capitol. Now is the time to prepare your eligible 4-H members for potential participation in this wonderful citizenship activity. 4-H volunteers are also eligible to participate. If you are interested in being a part of Tennessee 4-H Congress, view the 4-H Congress Volunteer Position Description to understand your potential duties. This event has been titled "The Premier Event of Tennessee 4-H," and is a very rewarding experience. Contact your County Extension Office for more information.

The State 4-H Office wishes everyone a Happy New Year! 2023 promised to be an action-packed, exciting year; full of wonderful opportunities for 4-H youth and volunteers. Encourage all of your members and fellow volunteers to take advantage of as much as possible this year.

"The Workshops" at the 4-H Alumni and Friends Reunion will be happening at the Wilson County Fairgrounds on March 3-4, 2023 in Lebanon. Registration for "The Workshops" will be open real soon.

The 4-H Volunteer Salute to Excellence Award applications are due February 1, 2023. Each County 4-H program may select nominees for each category, and submit it for state award consideration. The state winners will be recognized at Tennessee 4-H Congress, scheduled for March 19-22, 2023. U.S. Southern Region and National winners are scheduled to be announced in April, 2023. Now is the time to start getting your youth ready for completing their 4-H portfolio for the club year. The 4-H portfolio is THE way for a young person to get the most out of their 4-H experience. Portfolios give 4-H youth the chance to document their 4-H experience, and to evaluate that experience for future maximization. Encourage your 4-H members to do a portfolio, and enlist the help of other volunteers to help these youth. A National 4-H Congress participant may be waiting for you to help them get there!

There is an opportunity for 4-H volunteers to get certified as Level 1 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors on January 21 at Lone Oaks Farm in Middleton. 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors will be certified in shooting AND youth development. If you would like to positively develop youth in your county using 4-H Shooting Sports, contact your County Extension Office to inquire.
