Olmsted Award for Excellence
We are delighted to announce that RHS teacher Leslie Smith has been selected to receive the Olmsted Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching through Williams College. A former student nominated her for playing an influential role in his life and was selected from a large group of nominees. Ms. Smith will be attending the Williams Commencement Ceremony and will be honored at various activities during her time on campus. She will also receive a $5,000 award for the school. We are so proud of Ms. Smith and the positive impact that she has on our students!
Auto Competition
On Saturday, April 20th, two students from Rowland HS Automotive Technology competed in the annual Greater Los Angeles Automotive Technology competition. Sammy and Jake performed various technical tasks and procedures related to the transportation industry. A total of 14 schools and roughly 28 students participated in this contest. At the end of the event, Sammy and Jake were awarded the first-place prize and named the top students in the southern region.
Algebra II
Algebra 2 students draw and label the Unit Circle. They then use it to evaluate the trigonometric functions of angles.
Physics Carnival
On May 3rd, during their annual physics carnival, Ms. Caringal's physics class showcased what they have been learning all year. 3rd graders from Shelyn Elementary were invited to explore the different games built by the physics students. These games incorporated simple and complex circuits to make the games light up. In addition, the physics class collaborated with Maker's Space to showcase their STEAM-related booths. Students were able to explore robotics, chemistry, 3D printing, programming, and art. In addition, Ms. Caringal's physical science students showcased their Element Projects. They have been studying the periodic table all semester. The 3rd-grade students had lots of fun!

Vintage Photos
The following photos may look like artifacts discovered in a forgotten storage room somewhere in Rowland High School. Andy Cedeno, Rene Gutierrez, Randy Cabanas, Christian Del Rio, Carlos Piedra, Jason Tijerina, and Charlton Kanginan used sepia tones, decreased contrast, and added other textures to photos they took to create visual stories with a vintage aesthetic.
