October 2024
Immaculate Conception School Newsletter
Mrs. Schrimpf's News
October is here and with it many activities for our school students. This is a wonderful time of year when temperatures begin to cool and the leaves begin to change. Take time this month to take a day trip to enjoy God’s beautiful creations! This is also the month of the Holy Rosary. In this month of October, let us consider this beautiful prayer of the Rosary as a means that we too can use in order to draw closer to Jesus and Mary by meditating on the great mysteries of our salvation. I encourage you to take time as a family to pray this wonderful prayer together.
We are continuing to discern timing of the launch of a Capital Campaign to build a new school. As our community continues to recognize the need to explore ways to expand our facilities, programs, and resources for our students, we invite you to join us in prayer as we seek God’s guidance on this important potential step for the future of our school. Please pray with us for wisdom, clarity, and discernment as we consider how best to serve the needs of our students and families in the years to come. Together, we hope to create a lasting legacy of faith-filled education that will bless future generations.
The end of the first quarter is quickly approaching and our teachers are preparing for conferences with our school families. Students are asked to be a part of this experience as it gives them the opportunity to showcase their talents and challenge themselves to be an active participant in the educational planning process.
If you haven’t had a chance to stop by the school office lately, you have missed the bulletin boards decorated with all the students who received the monthly character trait for September! We are so proud of our Angels!! You’re welcome to come by anytime to see the great things happening within our walls!!!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. May God bless you and may Mary, our Mother, protect and guide us in the days to come!
God Bless,
Heather Schrimpf, Principal
Food for Thought
Greetings School Parents and happy school new year! I am just back from an extraordinary journey, walking the last 100 km of the Camino de Santiago. The Camino is probably the world’s most famous pilgrimage path. We had a young man aged 21 and our oldest senior citizen was 83! What an incredible blessing. A few gals from Holt Summit plan to do a little PowerPoint presentation for their parish detailing their experience on this pilgrimage. I am going to ask them to do a version to present to our school kids as well. May God bless this new academic year, all of you and your children, and Immaculate Conception Catholic school.
In the union of prayer,
Rev. Matthew Flatley, Pastor

Nurse's Notes and Reminders
Help Nurse Debbie get a jump on 2025-2026 school year! Many of our 7th graders have already received the immunizations that they need for admittance into 8th grade. As Nurse Debbie begins to communicate with 7th grade families about needed immunizations, having updated records for each student will help her tailor her communications. Feel free to send your student's most updated immunization records so that Nurse Debbie can determine what immunizations are needed for your student to be in attendance 2025-2026 school year.

Technology Tidbit
Students in grades K-8 have been learning what it means to be a good digital citizen and how to be safe when using technology. I encourage you to have these same conversations at home. Ask your kids about it. Here are some resources to get the conversation started!

Counselor's Desk
October is drawing near which means students have officially had a full month’s worth of counseling lessons. In September we worked on listening skills, study skills, and test prep to help students feel more confident and prepared going into Achievement Testing. In October, students will focus on conflict resolution, choices and consequences, and feelings. We’ve got several fun activities planned to help your student learn about these topics.
Don’t forget to check out our virtual classrooms! They have lots of counseling resources as well as
family read alongs and movies which relate to our character trait for the month.
Tip for the Month:
Achievement Testing Week is October 7-11. What can you do to help your students prepare?
- Make sure your student is on time for school.
- Make sure your student eats a healthy breakfast full of protein (think eggs, bacon, greek yogurt, peanut butter, etc.).
- Make sure your student gets AT LEAST 8 hours of sleep to help their brains recharge.
- Give your student some positive affirmations to start and end their day such as “You’re so smart. I know you’ll do great today!” or “I’m proud of you no matter how you do so just give it your best!” or send a note in their lunchbox.
