Colonial Park Weekly News
September 30 - October 4
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
It's hard to believe Tuesday is the first day of October! That was certainly a fast September. As a reminder, this Friday, October 4, is an Early Release Day for all SPS students. Preschool will be dismissed at 11:40, and students in grades K-4 will be dismissed at 12:00. In recognition of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day, there will be no school on Monday, October 14.
We are looking forward to our literacy WINN ("What I Need Now") blocks starting this week for Grades 1-4. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students will work in small groups for 30 minutes with a teacher or interventionist. Kindergarten WINN will begin on October 15. Student instruction will be based on data collected every seven weeks, and groups will be adjusted according to data. The primary goal of WINN is to provide students with learning opportunities at their instructional level. Another benefit to WINN is reducing the amount of time students who need services are pulled from Tier I instruction in their classroom, since every student is getting what they need in a smaller group at the same time. We are confident that our students will continue to benefit from this instructional time, and we can't wait to start!
Our first Goldie Gathering was on Thursday, and it was fabulous! During our monthly Goldie Gatherings, our entire school community gathers together in the gym. This month, we recognized our ST Math school achievement of 10% progress for September, which surpassed our goal of 8%! The following Student Spotlights were also highlighted:
Liam B. - Nominated by Ms. Apple Joy
Stephen V. - Nominated by Mrs. Lawler
Greyson T. - Nominated by Ms. Sam
Alex L. - Nominated by Mrs. Hussar
Student Spotlights are celebrated each month and are nominated by staff members for displaying the qualities of C.A.R.E.S (Cooperation, Advocady, Responsibility, Empathy, Self-Control). Our fourth graders also did an amazing job leading the Goldie Anthem, and special guest Goldie even joined in the fun!
Below please find the October Lunch Menu. Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Rosa Flynn
