A Note from Mr. Wilkerson
Dear McKelvey Community,
It is my hope that everyone has had a smooth first few weeks of school. At McKelvey Intermediate you can expect that your child will continue to receive the highest quality public education in the State of Missouri. Our staff will implement high quality tier one instruction, use up to date assessment tools such as NWEA and design intervention and enrichment lessons to meet the needs of all students. We believe that a strong partnership with families is crucial to success. Please reach out to your child's teacher or myself at any time.
Please join me in welcoming Jen Laneman, our newest Dragon, as she takes over the Principal's Secretary role. We are excited to have her here!
Lastly, the School Spirit Night scheduled for Friday, September 6th at Parkway North High has been postponed. We will let you know as soon a new date is determined.
As always, thank you to the Dragon Community for your support.

Attendance Matters!
Attendance at school is the initial step in achieving academic success. Education is a total process based on continual communication and shared responsibilities among parents, students, teachers, and the school. Unless your child is sick, they need to be at school every day and they need to be here on time.
We miss them when they are not here, and they miss out on valuable learning opportunities that are building blocks to future success.
In this space each week, we will be tracking our attendance progress with the goal of surpassing last year’s attendance achievement of 95.2%. With all of us working together, we can do it!
Picture Day is Next Week!
Picture Day for McKelvey Elementary School is scheduled for Tuesday, Sep 10th.
This event's Order Code is 87159PF.
Online ordering is available before and after Picture Day. Shipping and handling charges may apply to orders placed after Picture Day

Nurse's Notes
Greetings!
Influenza - also known as "the flu" is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. There is also a "stomach flu" virus that causes stomach symptoms as well. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.
McKelvey Intermediate has chosen to offer the influenza vaccine to our students. Participation in this program is strictly voluntary - it is not required.
- The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) will be at McKelvey Intermediate on Friday, October 4th in the morning to administer the flu shot vaccine.
- If you wish for your child to receive the vaccine, please fill out the Flu Shot Permission Form and return to the school nurse by Friday, Sept 27th.
- Please fill out both sides, sign and include a copy of your insurance card. If you do not have insurance, let me know and we will work something out with VNA.
- If you have questions about The flu vaccination, please contact your health care provider.
As always, please call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Jane L. Sinnott, BSN, RN, NCSN
Nationally Certified School Nurse

Each July, Parkway resets all of our volunteer accounts to renewal required. While your fingerprint results are good for up to six years as long as you stay active as a volunteer from year to year, there are still a few steps that you need to complete as a returning volunteer.

McKelvey PTO Needs YOU!
As a parent/guardian of a McKelvey Dragon, you are automatically a member. Please get involved as much as you are able. There are many ways, big and small, to connect and contribute to our school community. PTO's general meetings are led by our PTO Board, a small group of elected parents and teacher representatives. All are invited, and meetings are a great place to share your voice and hear the voices of others. If have any questions, please contact McKelvey PTO at mckelveypto@gmail.com.
