News & Notes from Mrs. Kapuchuck
Thanks to all of the staff and students who supported Kindergarten color week! Our kindergarteners enjoyed pointing out colors all over the building!
Starting this week, Mr. Trice's students will officially begin giving out "Free High Fives" each morning! They presented this idea to me this past Thursday. They created a presentation and as they pitched their idea, it was as if I was listening to professionals. I was so moved by their motivation to do this. Some of the reasons they shared included:
- We just want to brighten someone's day. If someone had a bad morning, this might turn that around and cheer them up.
- We want to put a smile on every face at MVES.
- If we see someone who looks sad, this will make them smile and feel good about the day.
- We want to show people we care.
They have strategically set up high five stations throughout the school and this is how they will begin each day.
These students are really showing our motto of Be the Difference. Not once did they talk about themselves or how it would benefit them. I am so proud of our students for noticing that the simple act of a high five can change someone's day and show them they are noticed. They have noticed that kindness is free and we can sprinkle it everywhere! The children at MVES are AMAZING and they are going to change the world.
These students have also been making bracelets and would like to sell them to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital. One Friday a month, they will sell bracelets for 25 cents. Stay tuned for more information!
Ms. Schiffres (Ms. Robertson) is still collecting pictures of students reading. Ideally, the picture should be of children reading somewhere outside of school (with a family member, pet, on their own, etc....) to be displayed on the library bulletin board: "A Family of Readers". Please email pictures to lrobertson@rockingham.k12.va.us or send them into school!
* PTO Fun Run- October 4th- Mark your calendars! Please consider supporting MVES through this fundraiser. ALL of the money from the Fun Run goes right back to our classrooms and our students. This is such a fun event for everyone! We need lots of volunteers to make this day amazing for our students! If you would like to come volunteer at some point that day, please click on the following link to sign up!
* Friday, 9/27 is Sports Day! MVES staff and students may dress in their favorite sports attire to show their team spirit!
I missed all of your children yesterday! I am currently enrolled in the Administration and Supervision K-12 Doctoral program at UVA. I was out yesterday for an in-person class, so Ms. Donna Robinson, a veteran principal, and our Assistant Principal last year served as my substitute. She loved being back at MVES and seeing all of our students from last year! Students were also very excited to see her!
Have a WONDERFUL weekend!
