The school year is moving! School pictures were sent home Wednesday. Also, please make it a regular practice to check the blue take-home folders.

School attendance matters. You cannot learn when you are not here to learn. Also, please make sure you are sending your student to school on time. Classes start right at 7:40 am.

We have clubs once a month on the first Friday of each month. Second - fifth grade switch throughout the building. Students selected their top 3 choices and clubs were created. Kindergarten and first grade have clubs in their room. It is a kid-favorite day! Some of the clubs this semester include basketball, soccer, reading, jewelry making, and so many more!

Parents and guardians can use the Absence Request tool to submit a request that informs the office in advance when their student(s) is not going to be in school. After the request is processed by the school, Campus creates an attendance record for the student.

Submit a New Absence Request

1. Check the box next to the student(s) for whom you are submitting the absence request

2. Select the reason the student(s) will be absent from the Excuse dropdown list.

a. If there are different reasons, you will need to submit a separate request.

3. Select the Absence Type (Full day, Arrive Late, Leave Early).

a. Full days will require the first and last day absent. This can be the same day for a single day absent.

b. Arrive late requires a date and approximate time of arrival.

c. Leave Early requires a date and time you will be picking up the student.

4. All types require comments – more information on the absence.

5. Click Submit when finished.

View Requests

To view all previously submitted absences requests for the student, click the View Requests button. The Current Requests displays details of existing requests and can be viewed by selecting the record.

Delete a Request

To delete an unprocessed request, click on the request in the Current Requests screen. Then click the Delete Request button.

This free event will run from 5:30-7:30pm. Attendees will receive a light pizza dinner, snow cones and will enjoy live music, an inflatable jumbo slide, and much more! Have a neighbor who has kiddos that are future Hanawalt Hawks? They're invited to tag along! A friendly reminder that the parking lot will be closed and parking is limited on 56th street and surrounding blocks. Please respect parking signs and neighbors' driveways. We hope to see you there!

Join us for the 5th Annual District-wide OneRun fundraiser, supporting the elementary and middle schools of Des Moines Public Schools. The past OneRun events have cumulatively raised over $100,000! Registration fees will be covered by generous corporate and individual sponsors, ensuring that all funds raised go directly to the schools. Each participant may designate one school to receive funds. The more participants and donations we have, the more money will go to our schools.

Registration is required to participate. Every participant must complete this registration form, and then participate on September 28th in order to be counted toward their selected school. Invite your family and neighbors to be part of this fun event!

Check in by the stage at the Water Works Park amphitheater on event day, September 28, 2024 between 8:00 - 8:45 AM. The run/walk will begin at 9:00 AM. You will receive an email with event details the week before the event!
