๐ Details from Dr. Johnson
As we approach the winter break, I want to take a moment to thank all of our families for their continued support and cooperation in keeping our school community healthy. As we battle the current gastrointestinal illness, itโs more important than ever that we continue to practice good hand hygiene to help prevent the spread of germs.
We encourage you to remind your child of the importance of washing hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before meals and after using the restroom.
We also ask that if your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 48 hours. This will help ensure that everyone can enjoy a healthy and safe holiday season.
We appreciate your understanding and efforts to protect our community, and we wish you and your family a joyful, restful, and healthy holiday season ahead!
๐Track Club
Track Club is back!
If your 3rd, 4th, or 5th graders are interested, please fill out a permission slip for them and return to Emily Nadal in room 28 or the office. Permission slips are available in the office.

๐ Reminder Regarding Class Celebrations
We love to celebrate your children's hard work, good behavior and birthdays ๐ However, to stay in line with TUSD's wellness policy, we ask our families to refrain from sending food items for classroom celebrations and, although not necessary, celebrate with non-food items instead. While cupcakes, cakes, donuts, and other treats are yummy, some of our kiddos have food allergies and some families may not want their child to eat those types of treats. Also, be sure to contact the teacher in advance if any non-food items will be brought to school. We appreciate your understanding.

๐คง Reporting Absences
Weโve made it easier to report absences and have the following options available:
Email: woodattendance@tusd.org
Online form: Wood Elementary Absence Notification
Call: 310-533-4484
~ If your child's absence is not reported, it will be marked as unexcused.
~ If your child will be absent three or more days, please notify the teacher and the Attendance Office (310-533-4484) so that classwork can be prepared by the teacher for your child before the absences begin.
~ If you need to pick up your child early for an appointment, please notify your child's teacher via email and cc woodattendance@tusd.org.
For more information, go to https://www.tusd.org/schools/wood/families/attendance.
๐ Study Contract
If your child will be absent for three or more days, your child is eligible for an Independent Study Contract, which keeps your student up to date on class work.
Please advise your child's teacher in advance as soon as possible when you know your child will be absent for three or more days. You may email, call, or send a message to the teacher and the attendance office (woodattendance@tusd.org) so they have time to put together a lesson plan for your student. It is your responsibility to report the absence, obtain the study contract and any materials online or in person before the absence. Upon your studentโs return to school, be sure the completed assignments are provided to the teacher in order for your student to receive credit. If you have any questions about the assignments, be sure to contact the teacher.
๐งฆ Lost & Found
Friendly reminder to please write your child's name on their jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes. Please remind your students to check for any lost items at our lost and found area next to our school library. Parents, you are welcome to check the lost and found during drop offs and/or pick up time. Thank you!
๐ป iReady Student Reports
Students were administered the i-Ready assessment in both Reading and Math at the beginning of this school year. This diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that identifies studentsโ strengths and opportunities for growth, which is important information for teachers as they work with students throughout the school year. Please click below for a more detailed description of how to access your childโs i-Ready report (through their i-Ready login on Clever) and what the information in the report means.
Please reach out if you have any questions or need support in any way.
