Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
This week, students began specials rotations. The library opened and students were excited to participate in lessons during library time and to check out books! We started off the week with VAPA Vision, learning about music, rhythm and beats. We rounded out the week with our second fire drill. Students exited the building efficiently, and all staff and students were accounted for quickly.
3rd Annual Dads Club Walk to School Day, October 4
The Dads Club will be hosting the 3rd annual Walk to School Day on Friday, October 4. Dads will be meeting at 7:10 am on the north side of Garden Road Park where the jungle gym is located. Everyone will start walking through the park at 7:25. There will be donuts and OJ for the kids. Please contact Tory Wightman at (858)449-6039 with questions or to learn more about the Garden Road Dads Club.

Our parent members of the School Site Council are: Colin Hebeler, Chantal Anderson, Anastasia Osbrink, Allison Smith and Christie Castro. Congratulations to our School Site Council members!
SSC is a committee of teachers, staff, principal and parents whole are responsible for developing, monitoring and revising the schoolwide program through the Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). Our SSC also serves to enhance two-way communication between our school, families and the district. The SSC is made up of 5 parents, 1 classified staff member, 3 teachers and the principal.
SSC members are voted in by their peers and serve a two year term. There are five 1-1 ½ hour SSC meetings scheduled for the school year on the following dates: 9/23/24, 12/10/24, 3/11/2025, 4/8/24 and 5/14/24.
TK/Kinder Parent Workshops Survey and Final Workshop on September 26
Parents, please take a moment to fill out this survey to let us know what times work best for you to attend a parent workshop.
Our counselor, Katie MacLeod, in partnership with Terri Gosen, retired TK teacher, is hosting another parent workshop this coming Thursday, September 26. Although these workshops will be somewhat tailored to TK and kindergarten students, all parents are encouraged to attend. Parents are welcome to come to the workshop and there is no need to RSVP. Classes begin at 8:00am but doors open at 7:45. Please come in, have a cup of coffee and relax!

Library News
Welcome back to our beautiful library! It was wonderful to see all my students & they all look like they grew so much over the summer!
Here are a few reminders from the library:
· All books are due a day before their visit. If your child's library day is Tuesday, their books should be returned on Monday. If the book is not returned by the due date, your child cannot check out another one.
· Please help your child find a safe place to put their library book away from siblings and pets. If the book gets damaged or lost, you may have to replace it or pay a fine.
· Remind your child to put their library book into their backpack the night before it is due.
· Remind your child to use clean hands when reading, and to turn the pages gently.
· Please do not put library books in the same backpack pocket as water bottles or messy lunchboxes.
· If it is a rainy day, please put the library book into a plastic bag to keep it dry.
· If you notice any damage to the book, please inform me immediately! You may put a sticky note on the cover so I can fix it correctly.
· Please read and enjoy the book with your child and ask them to tell you about the story or why they chose that book!
I am looking forward to another year of learning and growing with my students ❤️ Please consider joining my LIT Crew (Librarians in Training) so you can see your child in the library once a week! Drop me a line to learn more...
Regards,
Tuhina Lal
