Saline High School Building Goal:
Create a learning environment that nurtures the holistic development of every student. By implementing a comprehensive approach that integrates balanced assessments, Culturally Responsive Instruction, and aligned pacing and standards, we are committed to providing each student with a common and rigorous educational experience.
A Message from SHS Administration
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) in partnership with the Michigan Secretary of State are working with local school districts to support Public Act 258 of 2023. This allows high school students to preregister or register to vote within their public high school.
Preregistration or registration forms can be found at the attendance desk by Door 5, or in the 1st floor main office.
More information can be found on the MI Secretary of State Student Voting page.
Preregister online (16 & 17 year olds)
Register online (18 year olds)

On November 5, 2024, voters residing within Washtenaw ISD's service area will be asked to renew an existing 2.3826 mil tax that would cover unreimbursed costs for special education services for 12 years starting in 2026. More than 6,000 students, or 1-in-7 students, from preschool through age 26 receive special education services in Washtenaw County (1-in-6 students at Saline). Nearly 900 additional children ages birth to 3 also receive special education services before entering preschool.
If the special education millage is approved:
It would help keep $57 million across Washtenaw County available for programs and services that could benefit every student, including over $9 million for Saline Area Schools. This includes advanced placement coursework, improved learning environments, mental health supports, extracurricular activities, school safety, and more.
Millage dollars would stay local! Washtenaw ISD would reimburse all local public school districts and local public school academies for their mandated special education costs.
There would be no tax rate increase. The renewal would maintain an existing 2.3826 mil tax.

NHS TUTORING: Over the last 6 weeks, a dedicated group of NHS students has been working on providing more access to peer tutoring across Saline Area Schools. We have over 30 students signed up to be available to tutor for nearly all subjects from Elementary to High School this trimester. When students submit a tutoring request, the NHS committee will find and assign a match. We will send a new form out each trimester as student availability changes.

In celebrating the season, Halloween does come to mind for many. Your student's classroom teacher will have more specifics on fall classroom celebrations. However, if costumes are a part of classroom activities around October 31, I would like to remind everyone of how cultural appropriation in costumes can be harmful to other students.
What is cultural appropriation? Cultural appropriation is the unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of an element or elements of one culture or identity by members of another culture or identity. This can be controversial when members of a dominant culture appropriate from marginalized cultures.
Here are some other costume reminders and a video HERE that may provide more context:
Drop off/Pick up UPDATE
We continue to have parents wait to pick up students in the staff/special needs lot (see diagram below). It is imperative that pickups happen in the north loop on the east side if you are picking your students up before the end of the day.
In addition, students who have placement during the day that return to SHS should not be parking in this lot.
On the west side, the spots with dotted lines that are in the drop off loop are not for parking during school hours.
We will periodically have monitors out to help instruct those who are in the wrong area for pickup.
Thank you for your attention to this.
Drop off loops
Please follow the yellow arrows for our student drop-off loops. Red "X" and blue "*" areas are not for pick-up or drop off UNLESS you are dropping off a student with special needs.
Please contact school administration if you have any questions.
Student Parking Areas
Students should park in lots with a green checkmark. Students who park in areas with a red x will be asked to move their vehicles.
Parking passes are available here: SHS Parking | Saline Area Schools (revtrak.net)

Concerned About a Student's Vaping or Use of Substances?
Students age 12+ and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend a virtual conversation with Cayla Yuhn, LMSW, a Michigan Medicine Substance Use Counselor. The group will discuss the health impacts of vaping, drug, and alcohol use, including why substance use happens, when it starts, and how to make smart choices moving forward. The conversation is available the second Monday of every month from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Click here or on the image to download flyer.
