College Credit Plus Informational Night for Goshen Families- February 10, 2025
College Credit Plus Notice for the 2025-2026 Academic Year
Learn more about College Credit Plus (CCP) by attending an informational evening with the University of Cincinnati and Goshen Schools:
Monday, February 10th at 6:00 PM
Location: Goshen High School
This event will cover the pros and cons of CCP and provide an opportunity for parents and students to ask questions about this important educational decision.
What is College Credit Plus?
College Credit Plus is Ohio’s dual enrollment program that provides students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to earn both college and high school credits by taking courses from Ohio colleges or universities. The program’s purpose is to enhance students’ career readiness and postsecondary success while offering a variety of options to college-ready students at no or limited costs to families.
Key Features of CCP:
Dual Credit Program: Students earn high school and college credits simultaneously.
Eligibility: Open to Ohio residents in grades 7-12 enrolled at public, private, or homeschool settings.
Flexibility: Courses can be taken at the high school or on a college campus.
Steps to Participate
Step 1: Eligibility
A student is eligible for CCP if they meet any of the following criteria:
Achieve a remediation-free score on one of the standard assessment exams.
Have a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of at least 3.00.
Have a GPA of 2.75 to 2.99 and earned an “A” or “B” grade in a relevant high school course.
Step 2: College Admission
Students must apply for admission to each participating college or university.
Admission decisions are made by the college based on its specific requirements.
College applications include a permission slip for mature content and a questionnaire about emotional maturity.
Step 3: Course Registration
Colleges will guide students on course options based on assessment scores, prerequisites, and other requirements.
GHS CCR and Guidance Departments will assist students in aligning CCP courses with graduation requirements.
High schools and colleges provide 15- and 30-credit hour pathways to help students plan their coursework.
Additional Guidelines
Non-Allowable Courses
Private applied courses with one-on-one instruction (e.g., performing art lessons).
Courses with high fees or study abroad programs.
Physical education courses.
Pass/Fail graded courses.
Remedial or sectarian/religious courses.
Grades
Final grades earned in CCP courses will appear on both high school and college transcripts.
CCP course grades will be factored into high school and college GPAs.
Grade Weighting
High schools must weigh all advanced standing courses in a subject area consistently.
Preparing for CCP
Being “college-ready” involves more than academics. Students should also consider:
Emotional and social readiness for college-level expectations.
Time management and organizational skills.
Benefits of Participating in CCP
Students can:
Earn high school and college credits simultaneously.
Get a head start on career planning and degree or certificate completion.
Experience college life early.
Save on tuition and textbook costs.
Important Note: Grades earned in CCP remain on students’ college transcripts permanently and will affect future academic records.
Deadlines
Intent to Participate Form: Must be completed and returned to the school office by April 1, 2025.
School District Responsibilities
Ohio school districts play a crucial role in the CCP program by:
Providing information to students and families about CCP eligibility, costs, and consequences of not completing courses.
Offering counseling services for CCP participants.
Developing and publishing model course pathways as part of the school’s course offerings.
Annually notifying students and parents about CCP before February 1st.
