G5LIFE - What's Happening 11/12/2024
Dear G5 Families,
Learning This Past Week
Language Arts: Students are finishing up their reading of My Teacher is an Alien. They should be finished with it by 11/13. Students learned the suffix -er and -or. They learned the difference between Anglo Saxon base words and Latin root words. The students also practiced spelling specific focus words. They also engaged in daily writing prompts. Please continue to have students read 35 minutes a night and complete their reading log.
Social Studies: Students finished up their learning on the Native Americans and their Cultural Regions. They also wrapped up their Powerpoint presentations on the key questions below.
How did indigenous groups adapt to different environments?
How and why did cultural regions differ?
Math: In math class, students practiced finding the area of rectangles with a whole number side length and a mixed number side length. Their enthusiasm and growing confidence in math are truly commendable!
Science: This week, our students completed their observations of wheat grown in both light and dark conditions. They have also begun learning about the human digestive system.

Chaperones Needed for Orienteering
Dear Families,
On Monday, November 18th all Cherry Crest 5th graders will be taking part in an orienteering activity at Bridle Trails with Eric Bone, owner of Meridian Geographics in Seattle. Students will be working in teams (with one adult chaperone per group) to find the markers throughout the park. We will be looking for chaperones from each class to help guide students through the forest and help them navigate from about 8-12pm.
If you are interested in volunteering, please be aware that you will be actively participating to keep up with your group (walking and running).
We'd love to have you join us on this fun activity! The kids (and adults) always enjoy it and it will be great to get the kids outside, rain or shine!
Volunteers need to be in the classroom at 8:10am. When you arrive please check in at the office before going to the classroom.
