Principal Corner
What a great 3rd week of school! There is excitement in the air as we gear up for Homecoming Week! We’ve had nominations for homecoming court and then voting to royalty. Students have begun working on floats for the parade and signing up for Powder Puff football, and the student council is planning for a pep rally. It is starting to feel like fall!
Students are keeping tabs of their grades and it’s refreshing to hear them talk about it and take responsibility for their work.
Today, Mr. Reed, Mr. Kubiak, and Officer Phil cooked hotdogs and brats during lunch for students and staff. It was a great way to close out the week and to celebrate the great things that are happening here at school.

Student Input Needed
Each month this year, Ms. Maxwell and I plan to meet with different students over lunch to get input about how the school year is going and any improvements that can be made.
We'd love your input, and we'll buy you pizza! If you're interested, please sign up using the form below, and we'll be in touch. The first date is Tuesday, September 10, during the first and second lunch periods.
After-School Support
We will be offering After-School Support for students from 3:05 PM to 4:05 PM in Mrs. Cleypool's room Monday thru Thursday. This is a great opportunity for students to drop in and get extra help as needed, or just find a quiet place to work after school hours. Each day has a specific teacher and subject to focus on, but all students are welcome each day.

SOS - Signs of Suicide
This year, the OHS Student Support Team is working to teach students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. We are using a program called SOS Signs of Suicide. The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help.
Through the program, students learn:
that depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
who they can turn to at school for help
healthy coping skills
The OHS Student Support Team will deliver the lessons during one class hour. During the week of September 23.
We encourage you to visit www.mindwise.org/parents for information on warning signs for youth suicide, useful resources, and some of the key messages students will learn.
If you have any questions or concerns OR if you do NOT want your child to participate in this lesson, please contact Meg Takace, School Social Worker, at 269-694-7444 or at mtakace@otsegops.org by 9/16/24.
Dominican Republic Trip
Ms. Black will be leading a trip to the Dominican Republic during Spring Break in 2026. For interested students and families, there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 10 at 6:30pm in room 302 at the Middle School. If interested, families can RSVP to attend the meeting or receive additional information here: Dominican Republic Trip information.
