Hello Navigators,

It is hard to believe this is our last week before Thanksgiving Break. Our students are working so hard and soon we will conduct assessments to provide report cards. I am so eager to see the progress our students have made.

Our School Site Council will meet Wednesday at 7:30 AM. You are welcome to join even if you are not on the council. We will be finalizing our School Plan for Student Achievement. You can also join virtually on Google Meet with this code - meet.google.com/knv-ijdv-cue

We have exciting things happening at Nichols. A dedicated group of volunteers met last week to bring STEM lessons to Nichols. This group will help run science experiments for all out students in December. A notice went home looking for more volunteers so reach out if you are interested.

We also had a very productive Leader In Me coaching day for our staff. We have some new ideas to help promote positive behavior, increase academic achievement, better involve families and grow our participation in the program. Details will be shared soon. In the meantime check out the Leader in Me section of this newsletter for information about the program.

Hello Nichols Families,

After successfully piloting a school safety and audio system at two of our schools during the 23-24 school year, at the June 2024 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved installing this system at all OUSD schools.

This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the

classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught.

Along with audio and video capabilities, the new device incorporates a safety notification button to alert administration and front offices of any emergency situation. In the event of a classroom emergency, the teacher can activate the camera for office staff to view the situation. The device identifies the exact location to initiate school safety protocols. Further, and only in the event of a lockdown or active shooter emergency, Oceanside Police Department can utilize these same cameras to access views into classrooms and throughout the school.

We know there are times when issues come up that need to be resolved. OUSD has created a chain of communication that allows for an efficient resolution process. This is now located on our school’s website under “Our School” called Chain of Communication.
