Welcome to 2019, wishing you a very Happy New Year!

I hope you had a rejuvenating break sharing special time with family and friends. Now it is time to settle into the routine of school and work hard.

When it is blustery cold or snowy please send gloves or mittens with your child. It may be a good idea to send your child to school with a tube of ChapStick. I’ve seen lots of chapped lips lately that turn bloody because they are so dry.

January is School Board Appreciation Month. The members of our School Board are outstanding supporters of our school and advocate for all students in the Eatonville School District. We appreciate the countless hours they volunteer on behalf of the community. Students and staff send their gratitude.

• Remember to dress your child appropriately for our weather. Indoor recess will only be when extreme conditions happen. Please have an extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack. We are in desperate need of donations of sweatpants and gym shoes.
  
• Keep our “Lost and Found” empty by writing your child’s name on all belongings. Items are donated after our monthly assembly.
  
• Students need to be on campus no later than 7:40 a.m. as class begins by 7:45 a.m.
  
• Students learn most when they are IN class. Do your best to eliminate vacations and time away from school to enhance your child’s learning this school year.
  
• Be sure to sign your child in if they are tardy and sign them out if you need to remove your child from school.
  
• Please email our secretary, Lindsay Fitzer at L.Fitzer@eatonville.wednet.edu if your child is absent or tardy. Also, email or call her to change your child’s transportation. Changes to transportation MUST be made by 1:00.
  
• Lunch money needs to be turned in before school begins each day. Students may not carry a negative balance. You may send a check or cash or you may pay online at https://waeatonville.intouchreceipting.com using your Skyward Family Access account

We are in need of $566 to order yearbooks for every student. Please take a look at our donation form below if you can help with any amount it would be deeply appreciated.

Every month, teachers nominate one student in their class who demonstrates our monthly character trait. Congratulations to these students who were recognized at our last monthly assembly.

Winter composting continues with the addition of yard waste compost from Corliss Resources in each of our beds. Also, students have voted as to what they want to grow in their beds this spring! With our HOH goal of growing snacks for our school snack time, plans for tasty veggies and fruit plantings have been made!

Emory Simpson explains how math is different this year in 4th grade.

We’re having another Box Top classroom competition now through January 31st. Every clip counts so be sure to ask your friends and family to help support your kiddos class. So far this year the classrooms have earned an overall total of $240.50. Let’s see how much more we can earn this competition!

• Neatly cut and paste / tape to collection sheets or place in a Ziploc bag
• Ensure your child’s class is clearly written on all collection sheets / bags

In 1988 the Washington State Legislature passed the AIDS Omnibus Act which mandates HIV/AIDS prevention education be taught in all public schools. The Eatonville School District has recently adopted components of the state approved F.L.A.S.H Curriculum and will be using the appropriate portions to address Human Growth and Development and AIDS/HIV. You may preview the curriculum in our office this month.

This January, students in grades 6-8 will be presented the required HIV/AIDS prevention education curriculum on the following dates: January 28th - February 1st.

If you wish for your student to be excused from this curriculum, an Opt-out form (attached below) must be completed and on file in the school office prior to January 25th, 2019.

We would like to welcome our new counselor, Ms. Deb Noble Perry. She will join us this month. Ms. Noble Perry comes to us from the high school and has years of experience. She will be on campus two days per week, Mondays and Wednesdays.
