Middleton UpdateMiddleton Elementary | September 29, 2023

Middleton Families,

What a great week! Our students earned their first reward for positive behaviors and celebrated with a recess with their buddy class. It was great to see our Middleton community playing together.

I had an opportunity to spend some time in our Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) classes this week. STEM education is focused on hands-on, problem-based learning and students also share how much they love STEM and the fantastic Mrs. Selby. Pictured below are some of our 1st grade students programming car robots. We are so lucky to have a high quality STEM program at Middleton! We hope you all enjoy the weekend.

With appreciation,

Mili Wilkinson

OBOB Volunteers Needed

We are excited for our Middleton 3rd-5th grade students to have the opportunity to participate in the Oregon Battle of the Books competition again this year. The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) s a statewide voluntary reading motivation and comprehension program. Students are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. After reading the OBOB books student teams participate in comprehension "battles" against other Middleton teams. The team that performs best will have the opportunity to compete at the Regional Tournament. We are looking for a parent volunteer to lead OBOB in partnership with our Instructional Coach. If you are interested please reach out to Stacey Dolezal sdolezal@sherwood.k12.or.us for more information.

PreK

The Sherwood School District is excited to continue to offer Pre-Kindergarten in the Fall of 2023. We have spots still available at Middleton. Our inclusive Pre-Kindergarten programs have the goal of offering high-quality early learning education that promotes social-emotional learning and academic skills students need to be successful in school and beyond. Our current programs are inclusive, providing rich early learning opportunities for typically developing children and children with developmental delays and disabilities. This will be a tuition-based program, with financial assistance available for families who qualify.

Please visit our District PreK Program webpage for specific details. If you are interested in having your child attend please complete the interest form linked here and we will follow up soon.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Gillett, our district Early Learning Coordinator for assistance: agillett@sherwood.k12.or.us 503-825-5087.
