December 2016
Friday 12/2 is Popcorn & Candy Day!
GMS Holiday Celebration on 12/8
On Thursday, December 8th, all GMS students are invited to ring in the holidays during our "Winter Extravaganza" from 2:32 - 4:00pm. This fun-filled event will be hosted by the 6th and 7th grade class leaders. This "dance" is going to be a little different from our previous events because, while there will be music and concessions, there will also be bounce houses and inflatables! In addition, there will also be a water bottle flipping competition! Tickets will be sold next week during lunch – $3 during lunch or $4 at the door.

Election Day 2016
The Social Studies Department conducted a mock election on election day for all GMS students. Students voted in the Media Center precinct with their Social Studies class. Our librarian, Mrs. Stebbins, assisted teachers by checking off students names as they entered the media center and gave them each a ballot. Six “voting booths” were placed around the media center to insure privacy. When the student completed their ballots, they each received an “I Voted” sticker.
The results of our GMS election were as follows:
- Donald Trump - 303
- Hillary Clinton - 142
- Gary Johnson – (write in) 3

The High School Choir will wrap up this wonderful celebration of the season with holiday favorites you're sure to love!
- On Thursday, Dec. 15th, the Goodrich Middle School band (5th -8th grade) will take their turn on the high school auditorium stage to ring in the holidays. Be sure to come celebrate this season of cheer with great songs to ring in the season and the new year. The concert begins at 6:30pm, so get there early to get a seat. We will have a full house!
- Thank you to the Goodrich Music Boosters and Superintendent Michelle Imbrunone for purchasing the PA system for the MS band room. The MS fundraiser earnings can now be used for new music and updating supplies. Thank you to all who helped get this very helpful tool!
GMS Student Named All State Trumpet Player
Congratulations to Laura Senish! Laura is an 8th grade trumpet player who auditioned for the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association’s Middle School All State Band at the end of October. We are pleased to announce that Laura was accepted and will represent all of the Goodrich Area Schools and MSBOA’s District III in January at the Michigan Music Educator’s Conference at Devos Place in Grand Rapids. She will have 3 days of rehearsal to prepare for the Finale Concert. There were only four other middle and high school students in all of District III, which consists of approximately 65 schools, who were chosen. This honor recognizes Laura as one of the top 18 middle school trumpet players in the State of Michigan. Way to go, Laura!
"Hero Blanket"
Several 8th graders from Mrs. Simm's class made a “Hero Blanket” to cheer and warm an ill child from the Goodrich Community. GMS students have the biggest hearts and it shows every day in the little things they do for others each and every day! (L-R: Madeline Swett, Carter Lauinger, Brenden Lee, Emma Vitous)

Students are able to visit the closet for items they need confidentially. Please talk to your child about Rachel's Closet and encourage them to see Mrs. Durant, Mrs. Lauinger, Ms. von Keltz or Mrs. Batterbee if they need anything.
