Important School-Wide Information
PSAT Information for ALL Sophomores and PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors Who Signed Up
PSAT October 15 - 17, 2024
As part of our college and career readiness efforts at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, we strive to set all students up for success. That's why we require all sophomores to take the free PSAT.
Sophomores: Results from this assessment help us establish a baseline for each student as they start their high school journey toward graduation. The results help us focus classroom instruction and support your child’s growth.
Taking the PSAT can also help your child to:- Understand their strengths and what skills they need to work on.
- Find out what Advanced Placement courses they’re ready to take.
- Explore personalized career insights aligned to their score.
Juniors: The 2024 PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for entry to the 2026 program. Juniors must take the test in the specified year of the high school program and meet the program criteria to compete in $26 million in scholarships.
Students will be scheduled to take the PSAT on one day between October 15 - 17, 2024, using their school-issued device or a device provided to them that day. An exam day schedule will be released in October.
The PSAT is administered in a digital format, providing an easier testing experience for students.
A required Bluebook check will occur in sophomore English classes and Junior social studies courses on September 30 and October 1, 2024. Students, please bring your school-issued Chromebook.
If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Principal over testing, Jenny Valdez at valdejm@nv.ccsd.net.
IMPORTANT Safety Notice - Entrance Gates Close at 7:05 AM
Students arriving late or seniors with an open period are REQUIRED to enter the campus through the Main Building doors on 7th Street.
The safety fencing for the LVA Campus is complete. Around Vocational, Music Complex, Performing Arts Center, and Lowden Theater, four gates will be open from 6:20 am to 7:05 am each day for students:
- Clark Ave. and the PAC alley;
- Clark Ave & 9th St.
- Lewis and 9th St. [In front of the Black Box Theater]
- Gate on 10th Street
The other main access gates on 7th Street, in front of the school, and Bridger will continue to be open before school from 6:20 to 7:05 am.
Contact Assistant Principal Josh Hager with any questions at hagerjg@nv.ccsd.net.
STUDENT SAFETY! No Money Drop Off or Third Party Deliveries Accepted
The Front Desk is not allowed to accept money dropped off for students. Parents wishing to pay for a fee or item may pay with cash or check directly to the school bank.
For safety, students are not permitted to receive any third-party deliveries of any kind. Neither students nor parents/guardians may order food to be delivered to the student(s) for lunch. LVA does not have the resources or ability to verify the safety of the delivery/or person delivering. Delivery of gifts, balloons, flowers, and other non-instructional items takes away from the school’s ability to focus on instruction. Parents/guardians needing to deliver a forgotten lunch or any other conservatory item (dance shoes, costumes, or instruments) or academic work may check in at the front desk to make arrangements.
Reminder! LVA Parent Communication
Knowing who to call is the first step when trying to get your questions answered at LVA. If the question or concern is with a student assignment or in the classroom, contact the teacher before contacting an administrator. See the Parent Communication flyer for other offices and LVA employees to help answer all your school questions. Click on the graphic to download and print a copy.

LVA Staff Collaborate on Student Success on Staff Development Day
Staff Development Day started with a mocktail toast to the announcement that LVA earned another 5-star rating by the Nevada Department of Education, Nevada Educational Performance Framework. Students may have not been in class, on September 16, but that didn't stop the LVA faculty and staff from working hard on collaborations, discussions, and activities to increase student success and meet school goals! Teachers used their phones to complete surveys and even a Kahoot! Lunch was generously provided by the Friends of Las Vegas Academy and The Great Greek and Mediterranean Grill. A quick competitive game of Rock, Paper, Scissors leads to a winner of all the beads, Jazz Director Pat Bowen!

Class of 2025 Essential Information
College Scholarship & Resume Workshop
Two challenging college application requirements are writing a stand-out scholarship essay and an exemplary resume. Join College and Career Coordinator Ms. Miller on September 24 for a workshop to improve both!
Mark your calendars! FAFSA Night Announced!
Attending this event is essential for every senior considering going to a post-secondary educational institution. During the workshop, families get assistance in the FAFSA process and completing the application.
What is the FAFSA?
"The FAFSA form is an application that students and families need to complete to apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans. Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free, and it gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to help pay for higher education." -US DOE.
Why is it important to get my application completed early?
You're more likely to qualify for federal, state, and college-offered grants if you file the FAFSA early. Saving for College reported that students who fill out the FAFSA between October and December get twice as many grants, on average, as compared with students who file the FAFSA later.
