Lion Families
Can you believe it? Spring Break is just around the corner! In just one week, our students will be taking a well-deserved break to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends.
Spring Break will be from March 10th - March 14th. School will resume on Monday, March 17th.
We've had a busy and productive few months, and I'm incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our students have shown. This break is a fantastic opportunity for them to relax, explore new interests, and return refreshed for the final stretch of the school year.
Here are a few reminders and suggestions for a safe and enjoyable Spring Break:
- Prioritize Family Time: Encourage your children to disconnect from screens and engage in meaningful activities with loved ones.
- Stay Active: Whether it's playing outdoors, going for walks, or trying a new sport, make time for physical activity.
- Read for Pleasure: Encourage your children to explore new books and keep their minds engaged.
- Travel Safely: If you're traveling, please prioritize safety and follow all necessary guidelines.
- Review and Prepare: For older students, a little review of key concepts can help them stay on track when we return.
We encourage everyone to use this time to create lasting memories and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.
We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, March 17th, ready for the exciting events and learning opportunities that await us in the final months of the school year.
Warm regards,
Principal Stovall
Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR)
The campus and district Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) are available on the TEA public website https://tea.texas.gov/perfreport/tapr/index.html , and does not include A–F ratings or Distinction Designations at this time. The TAPR pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics.

Mar 5 - Read Across America Day/Black History Month Program (6PM)
IMPORTANT: New Date for Black History Month Program
There has been a change in the date for our school's Annual Black History Month program. The program, originally scheduled for February 27th, has been moved to March 5th at 6PM.
Due to a scheduling conflict, we felt it was necessary to adjust the date. We believe this change will allow us to offer an even more enriching and impactful experience for our students and families.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. We are excited to celebrate Black History Month with you and your children and look forward to seeing you at the program on March 5th at 6PM.
Thank you for your continued support.
Dress Code Guidelines for Jackets and Outerwear
As the weather begins to change, please remember to send your child to school with a warm jacket each day. Cooler temperatures mean our students will need extra layers to stay comfortable, especially during recess and outdoor activities.
As a reminder, students are only permitted to wear solid red or navy blue jackets/sweaters inside the building during school hours. Other color jackets can be worn into the building but will need to be removed once students enter and may be put back on for recess and dismissal. This helps us maintain our dress code while keeping students comfortable throughout the day.
Please make sure to label your child’s jackets and sweaters with their first and last name. This helps your student quickly retrieve items from our lost and found if they get left behind in classrooms or on the playground.
Additionally, this is a great time to remind children about handwashing and other healthy habits to help prevent seasonal illnesses.
Staying Healthy During Cold and Flu Season
As we enter cold and flu season, here are a few tips to help keep everyone healthy:
- Handwashing: Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before meals and after using the restroom.
- Cover Coughs and Sneezes: Remind your child to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their elbow to prevent the spread of germs.
- Stay Home When Sick: If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them at home to recover and help prevent spreading illness.
- Healthy Habits: Ensure your child is getting plenty of rest, staying active, and eating a balanced diet to support their immune system.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy and safe this season!

WE ARE LIFELEADERS AT OCE
Weekly I Will Statements
During morning announcements, we will focus on one LifeLeader Attribute each week and learn what we need to do to develop each attribute so that we can become effective leaders in our school and in our community. We encourage students and families to memorize these statements together and talk about how the attribute is exhibited at home, school and work. We will share the I Will statement in the weekly newsletter and on our campus Facebook page. We look forward to hearing how students are exhibiting the attributes at school and home. Click here to view all 15 LifeLeader attributes.

Every day we have Life Habits time that is focused on building social, emotional and behavioral skills.
