Hawk Highlights
November 2022
Dear Families,
Thank you to all of the families who attended conferences, donated food for the teachers, purchased items at the book fair, and organized our fall parties. Our students and staff are grateful for your support.
Last week, we kicked off our Hawk's Nest Families. You might be wondering what this is all about. Well, it's about strengthening the interconnectedness of our school and promoting a positive school culture.
Here's how it works:
Each certified staff member is assigned a group of multi-aged students K-6 to be their “Family”. Lessons will coincide with our school-wide theme of THRIVE: Trust, Happiness, Relationships, Innovation, Value, and Empathy. The lessons promote character development and support the BPS Strategic Plan & Instructional Model Priority-Social and Emotional Support.
The family system is a great way to build positive school culture and create a sense of community across grade levels. The family system helps students and staff make connections throughout the school. The Hawk's Nest Families promote friendship by allowing students to branch out of their normal group of friends and classmates and engage with other peers. Families also help students build a relationship with another trusted adult at our school.
Ms. Brown, music teacher, wrote a beautiful school song for us. It was very special to watch our students immediately join and sing the song she created. We are so fortunate to have her creativity and love of students at our school.
I have included a few pictures of the assembly and small groups! Be sure to ask your students about their Hawk's Nest Family.
Warmest Regards,
Stephanie Kastrup

Holiday Light Recycling Drive
"Do a good turn daily" is the Scouts BSA slogan. This year, Troop 231 in Bellevue is living that slogan by recycling old holiday lights! These lights are recyclable because of the small amount of copper within the wires. There is a collection box in the school lobby from November 1st until January 15. Please send any broken or unwanted string lights to the school. You can contact Barb Bittner at bbittner68@gmail.com if you have any questions.
