Our unit is being noticed by the system, and we are getting calls to see how we have made such strides!!
- Keep up the great work and be sure to look at orders.
- Do not accept orders for both breast and bottle.
- Talk to the nurse entering the order if you see this.

FROM OUR CMO
RRT response:
- Whenever a RRT is called, you should expect to see a SOUND MD respond. If you do not see this, please let Mary know. The SOUND MD may show up with a mid level and if that SOUND MD feels that the patient is not critical/unstable and can be handled by the mid level, the MD may decide to leave the bedside and have the mid level continue with the hands on eval (the SOUND MD is, of course, still responsible for the outcome and supervision of that mid level).
- If a pt needs to go to the ICU, it is the expectation that the conversation with the Intensivist would take place with the SOUND MD.
E-verbals :
- There is no ‘policy’ that prohibits a nurse from entering verbal orders when a physician is involved with an urgent or emergent case. Another situation where it would be appropriate to take a verbal order would be when the physician has no immediate access to computer system, i.e. driving their car, operating in the OR or in the middle of a procedure, etc.
SCHEDULING TASKFORCE MEETING UPDATES
- Thank you all who have worked extra in times of need.
- The scheduling committees have had their first few meetings and looking at the requests from the engagement committee.
PTO
PTO usage and make up shifts:
- Make up shifts only in the same week, and only if hospital cancelled.
- If you are requesting off a day in the week and still want to work full time hours – you must document this on your request off sheet.
PTO usage updates (we are adopting these guidelines NICU uses to help you better use your PTO):
- If an employee is canceled (either voluntary or involuntary) they can take up to 2 of those shifts, per pay period, with no PTO (unpaid excused).
- Vacations - If an employee has scheduled 3 shifts of PTO in a row, one shift may be taken with no PTO per pay period.
- Sick call - Must use PTO, no exceptions.
Disclaimer:
The employee is responsible for maintaining an average of 70 hours (per pay period) over the year. This is the only way they will maintain Full Time status. Please also remember that you have to work minimum hours to qualify for FMLA, so be aware of the rules. If you have questions about that, you can call the leave group at 1-855-547-3307.
