Northview Familia,
Student Privacy Protocols and Resources
Recent changes to the sensitive locations policy have created some confusion and anxiety amongst many of our families and community members. I want to assure you that at Northview High School and Covina Valley Unified, we stand in unity with our students, families, and staff. Our superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer, reminded all community members of the following safety protocols that are in place in all of our schools:
A single point of public entry that requires all visitors, including law enforcement, to enter through the office at all preschool through grade 12 campuses, except Fairvalley, where security fencing is in the process of being installed.
Policies that prohibit the release of confidential student information, even to law enforcement, without the appropriate subpoena.
School office staff and administration follow protocols when law enforcement officials or outside agencies request to see a child or ask for confidential or personal student information.
Employee of the Month
Our very own Joe Veazey (Spotlight feature below) was awarded the Covina-Valley Unified Employee of the Month award! Here is a snippet of his nomination entry:
Joe has been a cornerstone of Northview for over 35 years, dedicating his career to creating a welcoming, safe, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and the entire school community.
Joe’s unwavering commitment to Northview goes beyond his job description. He ensures the school operates smoothly every single day, addressing concerns and supporting teachers with anything they need in their classrooms. Whether it’s a last-minute setup or handling unexpected issues, Joe is always there with a solution and a smile.
Beloved by both students and teachers, Joe’s friendly demeanor and hard-working nature have made him an irreplaceable part of Northview. His contributions extend beyond the school day as he volunteers his time and energy at many of Northview’s sporting events, further exemplifying his dedication to our community. Joe bleeds Black and Gold!
Attendance Matters!
Northview's average daily attendance for the week was 94.9% for the week from 1/27 to 1/31 -- a 0.9% drop from last week. Let’s keep striving for even better attendance as we approach the 100th day of school.
Academic Achievements
A huge congratulations to senior, John Rincon, for earning early admission to USC. He plans to major in Civil Engineering. Fight On! (See picture below).
Congratulations to Sophomore, Jin-Jin, Sanglimsuwan, for representing Covina-Valley Unified School District in the final round of the ACSA Region 15 Oratory Contest! (See picture below).
Viking Field Trips
Our very own Black Student Union (BSU) hosted a field trip to SoFi Stadium on Saturday for the Black College Expo. Students explored post-secondary options and were able to speak to college representatives, attend college workshops, and enjoy live entertainment. (See picture below).
Our ACE Mentor program made their way to Trades Day at LAX, where they took a first-hand look at a variety of trades. Our students received presentations from several industry professionals and even participated in hands-on demonstrations. Our ACE Mentor team is preparing for their presentation at the end-of-year banquet on May 17. (See pictures below).
Athletic Update:
A huge round of applause to the Northview Boys and Girls Wrestling teams who competed at CIF Duals this past weekend. Both teams head to Valle Vista League Finals on Saturday, February 8 at Northview. Come by and support!
Have an amazing week, Vikings! Together, we thrive!
Wellness Center
Greetings from the Wellness Center,
Did you know February is National Random Acts of Kindness Month? Why is kindness so important?
It’s a celebration of all the ways we can become a positive influence in each other’s lives. Even one small act of kindness can mean a lot to someone. Plus, kindness helps get rid of stress, lowers blood pressure, increases stamina, boosts self-esteem and stabilizes your mood. Performing an act of kindness triggers elevated levels of dopamine in the brain and a natural high is produced, often referred to as ‘helper’s high.’
To celebrate kindness month, the Wellness Center will be hosting a kindness bingo challenge during the month of February. See flyer for details.
Counseling Corner

Happy National School Counseling Week! This year’s theme is:
“School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive.” Thriving means growing, succeeding, and feeling fulfilled, and school counselors are here to support students in all aspects of their journey.
How Counselors Help Students Thrive:

Emotionally: They provide a safe space for students to express themselves, build resilience, and manage stress effectively.
Socially: Counselors help students develop healthy relationships, improve communication skills, and navigate social challenges.
Future Planning: Whether it’s college applications, career exploration, or vocational opportunities, counselors guide students toward a bright future.
Helping students thrive is our mission—reach out anytime for support or guidance!

Staff Spotlight
It’s rare to find someone who consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty for 34 years, but Joe Veazey has done just that. As our head custodian, he has become a cornerstone of our Northview community, always working tirelessly to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, students, and visitors alike. Not only is Joe the hardest working man, he is kind and well respected.
Here at Northview we adore and acknowledge his hard work, but our District does as well. This past week, Joe Veazey was honored as Covina-Valley Unified School District Employee of the Month! His hard work, dependability, and positive attitude have shaped the culture of our school in ways words can’t fully capture.
You are the true MVP here, Joe! Thank you for all you do for us here at The View.
