One Book One District
This week marks DCSD's 3rd annual One Book One District literacy program, hosted by the District Library and Media Center. Schools and the school district are participating in a variety of events centered around the book Becoming a Good Creature by author Sy Montgomery, including a virtual meet and greet with the author. In addition, schools are still collecting items for the One Book One District toiletry drive for SECOR Cares (over 24,000 items have been collected to date). The schools with the most donations will earn $500 in books for their library!
Last weekend, DCSD hosted the first-ever One Book One District Community Kickoff Event and it was a huge success. Many families joined the event to visit with therapy dogs, chickens from Sedalia Elementary, and booths from participating vendors and partners. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible!
8th Grade Career Expo
Nearly 2,000 students from across our school district attended the 13th annual 8th Grade Career Expo at the DCSD Legacy Campus on November 10. This event, hosted by the Foundation for Douglas County Schools, provides 8th-grade students the opportunity to visit with over 40+ employers and explore possible career pathways. Students were able to ask questions, experience hands-on demonstrations, and discover possible career opportunities. Thank you to all of the sponsors, employers, and volunteers who made this important expo possible!
