Principal's Corner
Dear Justiss Families,
We’re excited to kick off our annual Popcorn Fundraiser starting October 7th through October 21st! This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be partnering with Deanan Gourmet Popcorn from Wylie, Texas. We’ve heard fantastic things about their popcorn!
Here are some key details:
Incentives: Students who sell more than 50 bags will enjoy a pizza party at school! Additionally, the top three sellers will have a special shopping spree at Walmart with our Principals.
Purpose: All funds raised will benefit Justiss, supporting our teachers and students directly.
Popcorn packets will be distributed to each student on Monday, October 7th. We truly appreciate your support in making this fundraiser a success!

October is a very busy time around Justiss Elementary! Just check out the calendar of upcoming events! One special week to look forward to is Red Ribbon Week, October 23rd-27th! This year’s theme is “Life is a Movie…Film it Drug Free!” Throughout the month of October, I will be visiting classes and educating your child(ren) on the dangers of drugs and alcohol use and how to live a healthy and safe life. I would also like to encourage YOU to talk to your children about living a healthy and drug free life too! Did you know that children of parents who talk to their elementary and teen children regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t! Sadly, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Sooo…what are you waiting for? Get to talking! Visit www.redribon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week and get tips for talking to your kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The life you save may be that of your own child or their dear friend!
Watch for notes informing you of the Red Ribbon activities and theme days! Let’s partner together to ensure that our children grow up to live healthy, happy, and drug free lives!
Also, during the month of October, we will be incorporating the BIG IDEA…Self-Control in our lessons, which fits perfectly when talking about saying no to drugs, alcohol and things that are not good for our lives! Self Control means choosing to do what is best even when we don’t want to! Here are some ways you can encourage your child(ren) to practice Self Control and build healthy habits that will ensure a better chance of having a self controlled, goal focused and healthy future!
Good Habits: teach and model routines and structure, and reinforce expectations for daily chores, homework, hygiene and manners.
Positive Attitudes: A positive attitude is required, important, and so helpful to succeed in life. Show your children by your positive outlook on life and circumstances that arise, so they will know they can face challenges and understand that they may not always have things exactly their way, but can see the positive and move forward.
Teach Consequences: Not all consequences are bad! In fact, many consequences are good due to hard work and perseverance! Show them that by working hard and making good choices, good consequences typically will follow. However, hold them accountable for poor choices, so they realize that poor choices affect their success, happiness, and privileges…and that good choices are worth it!
Reinforce Self Control: Praise your child when you see them stop and think, and use Self Control! Point out the positive outcomes that come from seeing them practice self control! Celebrate your child growing in Self Control, because you and they, will see and feel how it has helped them!
Kindest Regards,
