USC Math Competition Achievement for Academy of the Canyons Students
AOC proudly placed 2nd out of 120 students and 30 schools from across LA County in the USC Math Competition, where there was even a waitlist to participate. Among all public schools, AOC ranked 1st, surpassing even the prestigious California Academy of Math and Science. Only the private school Sierra Canyon placed ahead of AOC, taking 1st place.
This outstanding achievement was led by AOC students Anika Patel (10th grade), Gautham Korrapati (10th grade), Matthew Connolly (10th grade), and Praneel Samal (12th grade), who competed over the weekend and secured this incredible 2nd-place victory. These students are also part of the Academy of the Canyon's Math & Physics Club mentored by Mr. Mike Koegle. Excellent job, Team AOC!
In addition to competing at USC, the students attended a math lecture, enjoyed a private campus tour, and shared lunch with other math competitors. It was truly a special day for these specially invited schools.
Additionally, Praneel Samal, an AOC senior, has qualified for the American Invitational Math Exam (AIME) for three consecutive years. To earn a spot on this team, Praneel took the American Math Competition (AMC) and placed in the top 5% of math competitors in the United States. He is recognized as one of the top mathematicians in the U.S. for his age group.
