Message from Principal Lunt
Hello Oak Tree Families -
Our students and staff are falling into a good rhythm and we are well on our way to excellent learning this school year! Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have as your student(s) continue to acclimate to their new teachers and peers.
All of our students participated in our Administrative orientations on Monday. Mrs. Brady, Mrs. Laserna, and I discussed the importance of displaying safe, on-task, accountable, and respectful behaviors at our school. Please click the links below if you would like to view our student handbook, or see the videos provided by the District.
If families are interested in eating breakfast here at school the cafeteria opens at 7:40 AM and students may enter the cafeteria through the doors by the flagpole until 8:00 AM. For security reasons, we lock those doors promptly at 8:00 AM. After 8:00 AM please have your student enter the building through the main morning entrance gate and go to the cafeteria through the primary classroom hallway. When the main morning entrance gate closes at 8:05 AM then students should enter through the Administrative office.
Students may remain in the cafeteria to eat breakfast until 8:05. Any uneaten breakfast items students have after 8:05 may be eaten in the classroom in a quiet and efficient manner. We will make sure students have access to breakfast items up until 8:30 AM. However, please be advised that hot breakfast menu items typically sell out just before 8:00.
Thank you all for being engaged in our partnership to help our students Stand Tall and SOAR High!

Hello Oak Tree Families!
A few reminders:
Parents of Kindergarteners please remember to send your child with an extra pair of underwear and shorts everyday in case of an accident.
Reminder letters are going out about 11 year old immunizations. Please expect in the mail if your child is 11 years old and has not received their Meningococcal or Tdap yet.
Please send your child with their glasses daily. Vision and hearing screenings have started. There is a small change this year. Only Preschool, Kindergarten and 3rd graders will be screened for vision. Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and 5th will be screened for hearing. If your child is new to GPS they will have both screenings done and if your child has an IEP it is done every year as well.
The health office only keeps Ibuprofen and Tylenol available for students. If you would like Benadryl or another antihistamine kept in the health office for allergic reactions, please bring it in for your child. Do not send your child with any medication to school. It needs to be brought in by a parent always!
If your child requires the use of an inhaler during school hours it may be kept in the health office for “as needed” use. If your child is mature/responsible enough to self-administer their inhaler and you would like to have it kept in their backpack, please let me know. I need a form filled out with parent consent first.
Lastly, please send your child with a water bottle every day!
PTO Message
We want to give a shout out to Denitsa Sotirova for providing that stunning balloon arrangement on the first day of school! Thank you!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday August 13 at 3:15 for our first PTO meeting of the year. We will be voting on new members of the board.
Our yearbook committee is looking for some help this year. With the staffing changes, we lost a major component of the committee. If you’re interested in helping, please contact us at oaktreepto@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Election November 5 - GPS Budget Override Continuation Information
Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved that in November 2024, voters living within Gilbert Public School boundaries will decide on a proposed 15% budget override continuation. This would be a continuation of the existing budget override approved by voters in November 2019 and in place since the 2020/21 school year. The existing override generates approximately $36 million annually to:
- ensure competitive salaries to recruit and retain high-quality teachers and staff in classrooms,
- maintain programmatic choices for students creating future ready graduates,
- maintain campus safety and security personnel and,
- maintain class sizes with allocation to class size reduction.

Hello Everyone!
I wanted to first acknowledge the fantastic start we've had to the school year and thank you for all the hard work and dedication you've put in to make it happen. Your efforts truly make our school community special!
I am thrilled to announce the launch of the GPS Soccer League, tailored specifically for students in grades K-4. This league presents a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes to participate in a developmental soccer program focused on skill-building, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
We need just seven players per grade to form a team, and we'd love your help in spreading the word to families. Not only will the kids learn valuable soccer skills, but they'll also enjoy being part of a team representing your school, fostering school spirit and pride. It's a great way for our students to stay active, make new friends, and develop a love for the game.
Please encourage parents to consider enrolling their children. Your support can make a huge difference in getting our students involved and ensuring we have full teams for each grade.
The league starts Friday August 2nd - registration is closing soon.
Use the following link to register.
Thank you for your continued support and for being such an amazing part of our school community.
Best regards,
Coach Rizzo & Dan Haasch
