Weekly Wrap Up
Maple Place Middle School -12/8/23 - Week 13
Principal's Message :
Good Afternoon, Maple Place,
Earlier this week Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Malaney sent out their monthly newsletter - Director's Corner - if you haven't done so already, please take a look.
As stated last week in Dr. Godlesky's monthly update, the residency policy and law will take effect on December 13th, 2023. Please familiarize yourself with these changes. New Jersey state law (N.J.S.A. 18A:38-3) was recently amended to require a Board of Education to charge tuition for non-resident students. Previously, a school district was permitted to admit non-resident students with or without the payment of tuition with the Board's consent. The amended law now disallows non-resident students from attending a school district without payment of tuition, which includes families who move to Oceanport after the start of the school year or who move out prior to the school year finishing. This also excludes any exceptions for families who have homes under construction. Exceptions can only be made in a few instances that are clearly outlined in our new policy. Note that students residing in Sea Bright are legally considered residents of Oceanport for purposes of school attendance. If you have a question about your residency and your child’s eligibility to attend school in the Oceanport School District, it is important that you contact your school principal as soon as possible to avoid the potential assessment of tuition. Due to these changes and a review of our documents, the District will be conducting a residency audit and contacting families who are missing required residency paperwork. This will begin in preparation for the policy change. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Don't forget that there are a lot of things happening at Maple Place including the Oceanport's Got Talent Variety Show auditions, the Snow Day / Delayed Opening video contest, and Festive Fridays happening every Friday in December at Maple Place. Please see the flyers below for additional information on all of these fantastic opportunities!
Have a great weekend,
Melissa Keiser
