Bordeaux Elementary School
September 15, 2024
Dear Bordeaux Families -
It has been a wonderful week of learning and excitement as our Kinders joined us on Monday. Hopefully your students have come home a bit tired from all the mental exertion this week. We’re heading into another full week, where we’ll really hit our stride for the 24-25 school year.
For parent pick-up we are going to try a new system. We are seeking a way to get the same level of safety without the frustration of searching for an adult with an iPad or stressing when technology doesn’t work. I’m hopeful this will be a small change with a large positive impact. Parents will no longer need to have an adult check their students off on the iPad. We just ask that you wait patiently and your child will come out to you at the staggered times described now.
At 3:20, all Kindergarten students who are picked up by a parent will line up along the wall where cars pull forward. Teachers will be there to monitor students and connect them with an adult. At 3:25, all 1st grade students who are picked up by a parent will come out and line up next to the remaining Kinders. Teachers will be there to monitor students and connect them with an adult. At 3:30 all 2nd through 4th grade parent pick up students will come out. It is our hope that this staggered approach will enable us to get most of our younger students loaded up and connected with an adult before the remaining students come out.
What we need from you to make this happen is to continue keeping the front door clear and space in front of the crosswalk. Continue to be patient and not simply snag your child as they walk by. Make sure you make eye contact or get a signal from an adult before taking your child. Mr. Gibran, Ms. Heather, and Ms. Bri will continue to be out front every day. Mr. Wirzbicki and myself will be out there as often as we can. We’re hopeful that this new system will allow us to keep traffic flowing a bit quicker while continuing to provide the safety and security for our students.
Soccer permission slips went out this past week and are being accepted until Monday the 16th . We will be doing the lottery system by using the wheel of names as we only have the two coaches and limited space with 25 athletes. Same structure as before with first grade on Mondays, second grade Tuesdays, 3rd grade Thursdays, and 4th grade on Fridays.
Athletes that made the team will receive a welcome letter with further details on the soccer season.
This Friday, September 20 is our annual Popcorn and Playground event from 4:30 - 5:30. This is a great opportunity to learn about our playground expectations and to explore our playground with your students. Free popcorn will be available thanks to our PTSO. Mr. Wirzbicki will hold a short meeting in the library to discuss how you can partner with us in keeping our students safe on the playground by learning the expectations and about Kelso’s choices, which provide conflict resolution strategies. Then it will be time to head outside and let your inner child out.
And finally, attendance matters. Research found that 64 percent of the students with good attendance nationwide in kindergarten and first grade scored proficient on the state’s third-grade English language arts test and reading proficiency in 3rd grade has a direct correlation with the type of reader a student will be for the rest of their lives.
We love seeing your students here at school and as always, it’s a great week to be a Bordeaux Bulldog!
