Dear Dolphin Families,

This week has been a reminder to cherish each precious moment and person in our community, as we mourn the heartbreaking loss of a former student. Please continue to check in with your child, as we all process grief differently, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything or have any questions. Additionally, please ensure your child has an adult at school they feel connected to and can talk to or report anything that does not feel right within our school community.

We deeply value all of our scholars, and as a staff, we are committed to ensuring their care and safety. In these difficult times, we need our community more than ever and must celebrate the time we have together.

The Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Survey is the data that is used to see if a school qualifies for Title 1 funding. This school year we re-qualified and have been able to have additional classes, teachers, counselors, social workers, mental health services, programing, before and after school programs, health and wellness services, and much more. Our staff has been reaching out to families who we do not have record of completing the survey. If you have not completed this important survey we kindly ask if you would please take a few moments to complete it. Thank you so much!!

Does our family complete the school meal application?

Yes. Families at these schools should still complete the free student meals application to help our schools maintain federal and state funded programs.

Why is this survey important?

The School Meals Application provides your student’s school with a way to collect household income information. This information is important because it helps your school receive federal and state funding.

In addition to healthy and nutritious meals, the School Meals Application also helps to fund school programs such as:

• Before- and after-school enrichment programs
• School counselors
• Health and wellness services
• Resources for classrooms and teachers

Families with multiple students will only complete this form once. The form is simple to fill out and confidential. The information will only be used to help your school receive funding from state and federal programs.

Denny’s basketball season will soon be upon us. All students will require a completed Athletic Packet and Physical signed by their doctor to participate. These forms are available in the Main Office and are due December 6th. If a player turns in forms after December 6th they may miss tryouts.

The first tryouts are December 10th for Girls and 12th for Boys, after which Coaches will invite players back. No players will be cut based off of skill level and we will have Varsity, JV, and JVC games available this year.

On Thursday December 19th, Denny PTSA is holding our last Dine Out for 2024 at Romano Pizza and Pasta 5605 Delridge Way SW 98106. They open at 10:30 and run to 9:00 pm and they only have a few tables so take out or delivery would probably be best (please mention Denny PTSA so our fundraiser gets credit. They have all types of pizza choices ranging from Italian or Greek to Mexican or Veggie (they even have prosciutto & Hawaiian). Their pastas range from fettuccine to penne or ravioli to Lasagna! Apps like wings & fries and they also have Calzones & sandwiches! Yes, lots of great salads and MANY desserts (my favorite is Limoncello Marscarpone Cake). Please Mention Denny PTSA or Denny Middle school fundraiser so we can receive 20% of their sales to help those that need it most this holiday season. So, the last Thursday before Winter Break, take the night off cooking and enjoy Romano Pizza & Pasta while helping our folks in our Denny community! Thank you everyone!

Our science classes will be teaching Sexual Health Education (SHE) during the month of January and February. The 7th grade science classes will be beginning these lessons on January 7th and concluding them on January 17th. Our 8th grade science classes will begin the lessons on February 3rd and complete them by February 14th. The 6th grade dates are being finalized and will be shared shortly. The teachers will be sending a family letter home with your student with information for you to reach out with questions, preview the materials, and opt out of part or all of the lessons. Come and support our very hard working teen actors, designers and techs, and crew, who have been putting this show together since September.
