Academic Gains
Congratulations to our students for continuing to make tremendous academic gains on state testing.
Elementary School #4 is named Berry Creek Elementary School
At the June 19, 2024, school board meeting, the Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved naming elementary school #4 Berry Creek Elementary School.
"Berry Creek Elementary is a neighborhood school. We appreciate the Naming Committee's recommendations. It's a difficult job to come up with a name that reflects the values of the families who live there and the neighborhood itself. We're grateful to the community for their support and input as well," said school board President Crystal Phalen.
Out of the 635 name recommendations the district received from the public, Berry Creek Elementary School was suggested almost 150 times. The Elementary School #4 Naming Committee, comprised of parents, staff, community members, city leaders, and student input, met five times in four months to discuss name recommendations.
In a truly collaborative effort, the committee reviewed the community's name proposals and board policy, analyzed the campus schematic designs and considered other factors. The committee narrowed the list down to eight names that reflect the neighborhood.
"Schools are a hub. It's essential that families feel connected and have a sense of pride in their child's education. The name Berry Creek Elementary School continues our goal of naming schools that represent our values and the community," Phalen said.
In addition to Berry Creek Elementary, the other recommendations were Berry Creek Highlands Elementary School, Bonnet Elementary School, Canyon Elementary School, Highlands Creek Elementary School, and Highlands Elementary School.
Berry Creek Elementary School is part of the 2023 Bond. The $48 million campus is the district's fourth elementary school and will be home to more than 800 students in grades Pre-K - 5th. The campus is located in the Berry Creek Highlands area in Georgetown.
